Lowering a 1955 f100 with a front i beam.
 

I've heard that an i beam front axle from a '57 f100 is 1 inch lower than the original '55 i beam. Is this true?

I haven't heard of anyone exchanging the axles; I have a stretched original axle on mine which dropped the front 3", in my opinion dropping it more will too low. Where are you located?

Its true. I've used them on several 56's. If you use one make sure and get the backing plates also. Spacing on U bolts is alittle different but , not bad. Proably closer to a 1 1/2'' in drop.

Good news! I had heard that it was about one inch lower, so I grabbed one off craigslist for $40.00. Hub to hub! Will the steering hook up to the 57 linkage?

Everything I built was cross steer. Should'nt be much different. Go back to salvage yard and get the sway bars off a bronco 2. They are very simle to install.

It looked like a straight forward install. I had heard about the bronco 2 sway bars. Got them on my list! Any particular year Bronco 2? Will I need to fab brackets or just grab everything connected to the bars?

No year. Get everything. Look at Mid Fifty for front axle mounting. Turn front rod to frame around to clear bolt to spring and make a new spacer out of tubing. You will have to make front frame brackets with an offset in them. Rear brackets are easy at frame and also use orginal rod to frame. If I knew how to download pics I would. It is easy enough to figure out. Make sure and get the rear axle mounts also.

Cool! Thanks for the tip! I love putting these things together with bone yard parts! I enjoy the figuring it all out. Any idiot can go buy parts from some custom shop or have a truck built for them. But there's something fun about walking through a bone yard and finding some cool part and figuring out how to make it work!
