Wolfmanagh, you see that big wreck on 13?

Friday, about noon there was a big wreck on hwy 13 just south of the Rainbow Foods at county 42, about 1/4 mile south of where it necks down from 2 lanes to 1. 3 vehicles totaled, they all just about ended up in Prior Lake, right through the guard rails, almost to the water. A white F150, and a couple other vehicles. I saw the aftermath, but hadn't heard anything about how the wreck started etc. Anyone else know anything about it? I know Wolfmanagh lives in Savage, you know anything?

I don't hear of too many of the wrecks around here that much. I'm sure it was in the Savage Pacer the following week. (LIGHT BULB)

Man allegedly flees scene of three-car crash
By Holly Nordvick, Correspondent

Friday, January 10, 2003

The Minnesota State Patrol continues to investigate a strange series of events that unfolded during and after an accident Jan. 3 near the intersection of Highway 13 and Boudin Street near the border of Savage and Prior Lake.
At about 10:45 a.m., police and firefighters from Prior Lake and Savage converged on the scene following a report of a three-car accident with injuries. Upon arrival, they found that one driver had fled the scene of the accident, leaving behind a sports utility vehicle, which was on fire.

A 22-year-old Prior Lake man, who police say was driving the SUV, was later stopped by a Savage police officer near the intersection of Highway 13 and Commerce Avenue, just north of the crash scene.

The man was bleeding from his head, not wearing a shirt, and telling people that he was “the Messiah,” according to Lt. Randy Hofstad of the Prior Lake Police Department. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment.

Marilyn Smith, a 44-year-old Prior Lake resident, was the driver of one of the other two vehicles involved in the crash. At the time of the mishap, she was driving south on Highway 13 when she said the SUV, which was travelling north, swerved into her lane. “It’s just by God’s grace that we’re alive,” she said.

With the vehicle bearing down on her, Smith moved her vehicle to the side of the road – as close to the guardrail as she could – and braced herself for the impact. The SUV just missed the front of her vehicle and hit its back end, pushing it through the guardrail and down the steep incline at that part of the road. A passenger in her vehicle, her 68-year-old mother, Patty Smith, of Prior Lake, suffered broken cheekbones, cuts and bruises. Marilyn Smith sustained bruises down the front of her body.

The Minnesota State Patrol was unable to provide details about the driver of the third vehicle. However, none of its occupants were injured, according to Hofstad.

After extinguishing the fire, firefighters and police found what appeared to be a skull inside the SUV, only to learn later that it was actually a man-made ceramic skull. “It looked exactly like a (real) skull,” Hofstad said. Because of that, police left things as they were until a medical examiner could tell them what the object was. “We didn’t want to move it,” he said.

The incident remained under investigation and no charges had been filed.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-16-03 AT 02:07 PM (EST)]Yup, I saw that same article in the Prior Lake American (same company)this last Saturday. That was several days after I wrote the post. I drove by the aftermath, it was a heck of a wreck. Did you see the picture of the SUV on fire on the website? The whole thing was completely engulfed in flames. Sure looked ugly when they had the fire out.

nope, I didn't see it. I did how ever see a car fire at my work one day. I think it was a dodge shadow, but I'm not sure. We couldn't put it out cause none off us had our gloves around to open the hood to get a better shot at it. It wasn't till later when I thought about the garden hose sitting in the garage that would have reached it with ease. Oh well it was only a crystler product. :-X10
