Shops for changing your gears
Anyone know any good spots? I'm going to change my gears eventually when I get my lift and tires.

In the past, I have had Bear Frame and Axle do some work. This was limited to bearing fixes and re-packs that I did not want to mess with. I really was pleased with their price, workmanship and they were done in half-a-day. Of course you would need to get the phone book out and give the closest one to you a call. See what you think.

After calling around a little, a lot of people have recommend drive train industries, how ever after calling them, they are expensive!
But I found a shop called Western Drive Train off of 18th and chambers down in se aurora. The mechanic over there that I spoke to was Bill. He seemed to be pretty nice! And sounded quite honest. I plan on taking my axles over to him in a couple of weekends to have him overhaul them. Fair price and was upfront about what he thought would be worn out and what wouldn't be. I will let you know how it goes! If anyone has used them before let me know! later! Rompin 78' |

I have Scott Polk do all my gear work, he sets up axles for alot of the 4x4 shops in town, they just farm out the work to him. He's very reasonable and knows what he's doing. He lives on the west side of town near 285 and C-470, works out of his garage in the evenings. He usually has the best prices on gears, lockers etc.
Just tell him I sent ya. Mike Magree |

Hey all! Well got my axles back finally! Been waiting on money to pay to have it done! Took them over to Western Drive Train. Was a little bit more then I had anticipated, but then again I had a little bit more done to them!
Bill was great! He immediately took apart my third member from my 9" and showed me what he was looking for, and why it was bad. I don't know whole lot about axles, but even I could tell that they where worn out, he had me run my finger along one of the teeth and there was a big difference where the teeth meet and where the factory edge was at. He found me a good set of used gears from a grandma mobile van with same set of gears and a new carrier that he only charged me ~$125 for! And when I picked up my axles he showed me the parts he had taken out and what kind of shape they were in. He looked at the front set and said they were in good shape, the only thing needed was seals. He's a Ford man to, about 4 Ford pickups around his shop, 2 out front, which I think he drives, and 2 in his shop, looked like he was fixing for someone else! Definitely recommend him if you are looking to have any work done on your axles! Rompin 78' Mike |
