broken bolt in water pump

when i was taking off the water pump off of my 86 f-150 with the 302 one of the long main bolts broke inside how can i get it out ?

Yeah thats never any good , if theres not enough sticking out to get a hold of the timing cover will have to come off . Then you will have to work it out . There never easy .The bolt goes thru the pump & cover & screws into the block ...Lew

If u can't ez out it try putting the new pump on. I have gotten lucky before

I just did my water pump and broke off the one stud bolt i needed to put it all back together had to take the timing cover off which worked out good cause i found out i need to replace the timing chain and gears so it acutally might be a good idea to take it off just to see since you got it apart anyways better do it now than later and break off another bolt then 30 bucks and my truck runs great. also taking off the timing cover will let you get the bolt out unless it's broken off flush with the block which then i don't know how to help but someone will chime in that knows.

My two cents
Kyle

i got the timing cover off and there is enough bolt sticking out to grab with plyers but it wont turn no matter what how can i get it out

Grab it with vise-grips.

heat it up after soaking in rust buster overnight.

Put the heat wrench on the motor, the hole needs to get bigger not the bolt.

truckrider814 10-31-2009 11:08 PM

squirt some pb blaster in there and leave it for 20 mins then try

i heated it up with a propane torch and then tapped it with a hammer and with vise grips twisted it left and right until it came out no problem
