Why 122800 bytes
 
How was 122800 bytes decided upon for gallery uploading. All the pictures I have scanned in are well over 100 kb in jpeg format.

We normally Re-Size the photos to fit into the criteria.

A 21KB photo is HUGE when it comes up on screen.

Why 122800 bytes
 
You're JPG compression ratio isn't set appropriately for web pages. In the old Picture Gallery section of the site, the average photo size is about 45k. Keep in mind that we're targeting the average modem user with a 56k connection and that a 56k modem takes about 10 seconds to download a 50k file, 30 seconds to a 120k file. We have to keep image sizes to a reasonable limit or browsing the User Gallery would be a headache for some...
