Ohio PSD, 5.4, V10 comparision Part 2

When we did our little comparison last weekend, the three of us really wanted to do it again soon, to give us the chance to involve more trucks and trailers, as well as to revise some of what we did to do it better this time. For those who didn't hear about it, it can be found HERE.

With the nature of my job, I'm away from home for between 2-3 weeks at a time, so I was thinking about doing something around the weekend of October 10th or so. Not a hard date, as I can adjust my work schedule as needed to get the most people involved here.

The location we had in Millersburg, OH was about the closest to perfect that I can think of in or around the state of Ohio. The roads weren't very congested, and there are steep enough hills to give even the most powerful trucks quite a challenge. I was going to load my trailer as close to 10,000 lbs as I can get it to bring for the test. Would be kind of nice to see some other trailers over there, both lighter and heavier than mine.

I'd like to get as many different drivetrain combinations as possible. I'm really interested in V10s with the 6-speed and both autos, both 3V, and 2V. Also all 3 PSDs as well as the different variants of the 5.4L trucks.

This time I will weigh my trailer on a certified scale to get an exact weight, and hopefully we can have an even better time than we did last Sunday!

Who's interested?

well, i posted in the Excursion forum, 2004-2008 F150 forum and the 2009+ F150 forums. So well wait and see how many ppl we can get involved now. Another thing, we forgot to check the stoppin distance of each rig

Thanks for doing the legwork and posting it in the other forums! Getting lots of people involved is gonna make this great.

Stopping distance is something that I'm a bit hesitant to try. I've just always been concerned about what would happen if the tiedowns failed. You saw the overkill I had on the rear end, with two 10,000 lb straps holding the car. Even so, it's just something that concerns me. Beyond that, I think it's more likely to measure how well the brake controller works rather than the ability of the truck.

Now if you want to test stopping distance without the trailer's brakes, that would be just fine. I think the biggest thing that's gonna affect that would be the truck's weight, as I think all trucks involved have strong enough brakes to lock the wheels.

I'd still win! :-X04

I am actually off that weekend. Will most likely be in east canton or mechanicstown hunting though... I might be able to come for a half day or something depending on which day and what my wife is doing. Or if I'm seeing deer I might pull an all-day'r in a treestand, no garuntees. I'll see what my cousins are up to as well, might be able to bring that 7.3 and 5.4 SD's over too.

It looks like Oct-10 or Oct-11. I have an issue with that Sunday (I could rearrange if it's Sunday but I might be in the dog house for awhile) but I know Matt has an issue with Saturdays. We'll probably need to put it to a vote.

So far I think it's:

Saturday Oct-10: 0

Sunday Oct-11: 1

What say the rest of you?

EDIT: Never mind I'm ok with either dates. Had the wrong Sunday. I updated the count.

Hmmmm..... I'll be driving home from the E. coast right about then and might be able to swing through Ohio on my way home to Illinois. Stock 7.3L 6-speed manual. Although, I give it 2% chance my wife would approve the detour. But you never know! ;)

Sunday should work for me. Sounds to me like that's when the most of us could show up. What about trailers? I'll be bringing a similar setup to what I had on Sunday, anyone else able to bring something heavy?
