DP Tuner F5
So down at RRE Nick and I tried installing my DP F5 chip on my truck. We got the PCM out and the silicone cleaned off. Couldn't get the chip to seat right or something and I had to drive 800 miles home so I said let's pull it out all the way and I'll do it when I get home.
Well how exactly does the chip seat onto the PCM? I don't quite understand how 2 flat surfaces are supposed to hold to each other. Pictures of how it sits in there would be greatly appreciated. I checked Guzzle's writeup and it has no pictures of the PCM open with the chip installed. |
I don't have any pictures, but it just pushes up on it and holds itself there. The problem I had was plugging the wire to the controller. It went on upside down, and I pulled it out 3 times before I realized what I had done....GRRR

Taint rocket science, you push the chip on over the connector on the PCM. Easy sleasy.
|
It can't go but one way IIRC. I've had mine out several times lately and never give it much thought. Heck, I haven't pulled the PCM in a long time and don't even pull the plastic housing anymore.

Here's one of it installed.

Well now I feel REALLY stupid. I think I've got it now. Anybody can feel free to lock this thread at any time.

What was wrong Pete? You shouldn't feel stupid and it might help the next man out.

http://www.dp-tuner.com/wordpress/wp...stallation.pdf Diane Barry what was wrong was I had the chip upside-down. :-banghead Now I just need a few more spare minutes to install it. Today was the first time I had a few spare minutes in a long time. It'll probably be Saturday night by the time I get to try again. |
I found this Pete!
http://www.dieselmovies.com/view_vid...163467c9dae521 Man I am having fun with my new DP :-X22.Going to tow with it tomarrow and put it to the test.;) |
Pete, a good thing to do is drill a hole in the plastic PCM mount, put your wire thru there and give a few strips of tape to seal it and keep the wire and chip intacked, worked for me..

Thanks for the video link, Brad.
And my idea of testing it is going down to the abandoned service road and warming my tires up a bit. I wonder if she'll burn all 4 at the same time. Mike the install was started in TN just didn't work out quite right. Now if I'd had more time Sunday and didn't have a nosy, concerned parent in the truck for 13+ hours it'd be done. We already got the hole cut out and everything we just couldn't get the chip to seat right. |

Here's what Mike is talking about doing.

And the main thing is have fun with it. Don't forget to have those keys in you pocket when you mess with it.
