I thinks it's a great Idea, although I wonder how many posts we will get in here from the newer models, I dont know say 70's or 80's on up?? I would think maybe it should be split into 2 groups maybe 1960 and older and 61 and newer?? just a thought but maybe see what happens in a few weeks.

Also I forget is a 52 F-6 a two ton or 1 1/2 ton??
Why not include the 1 1/2 tons also like anything bigger than a F-350, F-4's etc just thoughts. I'm sure you will be getting lots of feedback and ideas on this as well, so who knows.

Thanks

Josh

I personaly would not like it split.
Not enough big trucks as it is.
I think there is one other big truck on the 61-66 forum.
Should include F500 on up.

Cool! I've had a few question on these trucks over the years so I'm glad there is a dedicated forum now.

We've had a lot of requests for this type of forum. There is a LOT of traffic in the Superduty/Heavy-duty forum, and there is no good place for the larger trucks from earlier years, so I think this is a great thing for everyone.

If anyone has suggestions for a Tech folder, or would like to get a member-introduction thread going, please let us know.

I know a lot of people have put some good info and links etc etc in specific post's so maybe in time we can have a sticky with everything right up on top.

for example I needed a new master cylinder for my 52 F6 and found one locally from Page Brake Wharehouse for $75 and it was made in the USA too. :)
Here is the their website, great people to do business with.

I also think this forum is a good idea because on the heavy-duty trucks, there are certain things that carry through the years, like air-brakes and other stuff, that are not specific to any particular year or body style.

Like Trico-Folberth air-pressure wiper motors, Which I will be starting a thread about in the next day or two.

C-700 08-03-2009 03:27 PM

I will be here often, Thanks

Vijay 08-04-2009 03:10 PM

This is very good move...I like the older trucks, manual trans, no push here n there culture, just pure enjoyment driving these things...

51MHF5 08-04-2009 08:32 PM

I also question your cut off point. My F5 is considered a 2 ton in Canada. I don't share much with the F1 and F2 models. 95% of the info I need I get from the big truck guys. And because of my Marmon- Herrington conversion my payload is around 5 tons. You really should base it on tire size. I use the same rubber as the big trucks, why? Because they consider us a big truck. They are set up for light trucks and commercial trucks. And while I'm whining why don't you guys fix your Profile choices to include F4, F5's etc. instead of making us use F450, F550 etc.. That's like a 2 minute fix for the webmaster, because the way it is set up now kinda says "we don't really care what you drive".

Cheers

An F5 is a 2ton (as far as I am aware), and would be included in this forum

That is a listing from a database we don't have access to.
We purchased the most complete listing we could - we are working on improving it.

Thanks,
Adrian

I just noticed this, and all I can say....IT'S ABOUT DANGED TIME WOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't split it up. Believe it or not, a LOT of stuff is the same from the 60's all the way through to the 90's. A tech album would be great. I have a generic air brake schematic that I will be glad to post. A member check in would be great. Allows us to know how many "Big Truck" owners we really have. This section should be perfect for ALL F-5/500/550, and larger trucks, since that has always been the 2 ton cut off. The F-450 is a ton and a half rated rig, and can stay with the F-350's same as the old F-4.

I have one of these laying around. Came off my '73 Louisville donor.

rat49f6 08-13-2009 07:30 PM

f5 is 1.5 ton ... f6 is 2 ton

wmjoe1953 08-13-2009 08:02 PM

Then what was the 1.5 ton F-4?

i think it could be split 79 and before as the technology changed after that time, and the 79's i consider classics. people generally dont restore anything made in the 80's either, and the bodies have fiberglass from the 80's too.

and i will be lingering here too. i am interested mainly in the 57-79 conventional cab trucks like the F/T/N series etc. I dont have a real one yet just my custom built rig. i will build more in the future, and i hope to inspire others to get into building the trucks to save the many forgotten designs ford/mercury built in the past, which are, the best looking and toughest trucks imo.

JimG1098 09-17-2009 07:21 AM

Sounds like a good idea. 54 F-750 Fire Truck. Love to really know all the big , older trucks and their owners and where they are located

I really like the idea of this forum. I just bought my first bigger truck (F600) and don't know much about it. It doesn't seem to share much with my F100-350s exept a few body panels. I have ordered the manual but don't have it yet, so I'm looking forward to learning about it in this forum.

Redcat Diesel 10-18-2009 06:18 AM

This is my first visit to this forum. While I don't own anything larger than a pickup I've repaired and driven dozens of medium - heavy Fords. L series trucks are my favorite but I like them all.:)

adharvey2 01-26-2010 12:44 PM

This is great! I gave up on FTE a few years ago because is was 99.9 % "car" trucks (pickup's, suv's, rat rods, etc). But this is different. Real Trucks! Trucks that are used as trucks. I'm all for it.

I don't know if it needs to be split, but there ARE a lot of differences between medium duty and heavy duty trucks. A guy with a F600 isn't going to be much interested in a discussion of maxibrakes or Brownies - and a heavy truck driver won't have much to say about Hydrovacs or two speeds. Not to mention CDL vs non-CDL. But there probably wouldn't be much participation in a class 8 (heavy duty) forum, so I think this will work fine this way.

When In get a chance I will post some Ford charts that show exactly what models are 2 ton, 2 1/2 ton , 3 ton, 5 ton, etc. It vairies not only with model but also with year.

GOOD FOR FTE!

BigF350 01-26-2010 12:59 PM

You are right - but we need participation of the big truck folks to increase, maybe then we can split out to have a section for the larger COE's, Louisville's etc. and then a separate one for Medium Duty trucks.

Redcat Diesel 01-27-2010 12:53 PM

:)Adrian all I can suggest is be patient. Like most of the economy trucking took a big hit with the recession. Things are starting to turn around and work is picking up. For now most of the folks employed in the trucking industry are working all the hours they can to make up for their losses. As things level out there will be more time to chat on the net but until it does you gotta make it while you can.:)

Large Trucks

Hi All :-bigpartyI like it. Have a 56F-100 ,54 M-350 and 56 M-500 coe. It would make looking for info easier I believe. I'm fairly new to this site and computers:-X18 so anything to make things easier would be great.:-dancing1All my trucks are projects, I've spent hours looking for coe's and believe this would save time. If I knew what I was doing it would go better also but can't have everything:confused:

46autocar 01-06-2011 04:34 PM

always lookin for info

Hey guys Im new to this site, I spent 10 years as a warranty mechanic for a Ford dealer in AZ and the last 8 years as a diesel mechanic for a copper mine. I had some back problems and I decided to start drivin trucks instead of fixen them. I am always working on some kind of project or Idea and I normaly work with people I can bounce ideas off of but now Im stuck by myself so I need some new friends. I like the idea of this site after all we cant pay the bills pullin boats and camp trailers with little trucks we have to have real big trucks to put money in the bank.

krewat 01-06-2011 04:56 PM

Welcome Aboard 46autocar! :-X22

You'll have plenty of people to bounce ideas off of here at FTE!

Jax Rhapsody 01-12-2011 01:16 AM

So, what is a Louisville?

BigF350 01-12-2011 07:30 PM

This:

Also called the "L-Series" - was sold to Sterling when Ford sold their Heavy truck devision.

Jax Rhapsody 01-13-2011 02:50 AM

So they are just Ford trucks that were made here?

Welcome! Large Trucks

:-winkHello Every One - I was really hoping this site would be more active with larger truck builds, I would really like to see it live. I'm not sure if my C-500 Merc. is considered a large truck or not but will try some posts of build to keep things going here. Please excuse my small amount of computer knowledge :-tap among other things.
Here is an introduction to Old Ugly (hope this works)

OOOPPS - Is this the proper place to do a build thread ( post ?) about Old Ugly or would it be better somewhere else ? By reading the above quote I thought this would be the place to do it. Some one please correct me if this is the wrong place to do it. If I don't do it now I probably won't get the time until next winter.
