Testing an amateur woodworker's skills
1 Attachment(s)
Several months ago while waiting for a test at the Dr's office, Donna ran across an article about building your own burial casket. She jokingly asked me to build her's. At first I really didn't know how to react, but I decided to go for it. After many hours of labor, tears and sweat, here's the almost completed casket. I'm still waiting for some of the handle hardware, but it is mostly done, now I just hope it is in my way for a long time.
I am far from being an expert woodworker, but I think that taking my time and through trial and error, it came out better than I ever could have expected. Donna is afraid that after doing something like this, I will just walk away from my woodwork, that is just something that only time will tell. I'm just afraid that it will be needed much sooner than I want:eek:. Here's a link to the build pics. http://picasaweb.google.com/mechmagcn/DonnaSCasket# |
WOW! I am at a loss for words. That is very nice work, I wish I was half as good as you are with wood working. I just hope that it will sit there as well for a long time as well!!!

That is absolutely beautiful.
Building your own casket is something that has never crossed my mind. I want mine build out of stainless..maybe diamond plate...:-X10 |
That is beautiful Jeff I can't imagine what you went through building it but you won't need it for a long time Donna's a fighter, atleast it will be very easy to convert into a blanket chest .

I can't begin to add up the hours involved in this project. I can only say that it is the largest and longest that I have ever tried. I told Donna when I started that I would complete it, cover and push it to the side. Hopefully it will be there for many years in the way. When I get over this one, the next large project is building a cherry grandfather clock for my mother, wish me luck, I think I'll need it. |
Stunning......Here's to it not being used.
Good luck on the clock. |

I think its safe to say that you'll have no problem with the clock :) |
Oh, believe me, I plan to shove it into a corner for a long time. That was the deal when I agreed to build it. Guess I could put a piece of glass on top and use it for a coffee table........:-X10 wonder how many folks would turn around and head out the door?
