Need a tach for diagnostic work
I'd like to find a good underhood tach that will read numbers like in .25 or .50. I'm guessing nobody makes analog ones anymore although either will be fine. I need to adjust my RPMs in the ol' truck. It has a horseshoe bracket for the coil, so alligator clips make it impossible to clip on.
Nothing too expensive. Used is OK. Any suggestions? Thanks. |
You should be able to find the old tach & dwell meters , There great for setting idle & adjusting carb ....I have an old snap on one that works great , its about 30 years old .. LOL ... Lew

Cool.
I only wonder how accurate they are anymore after use and all these years? |
Use the built in zero set screw, and they're as accurate as when they were new.

That's right. Assuming there's one...off to to yard sales / flea markets tomorrow for a new one.

The Actron one they sell at Autozone and Advance Auto is inaccurate out of the box, even using the zero screw.
I ended up buying a $99 digital timing light with tach for my work, comes in handy since it works on 2 cycles too. |
I scored a Mac Tools ET-360 - dwell, tach, voltmeter, and ohmmeter. It came with a Ford horseshoe adapter! Perfect! It also came with its manual and etc in its box.
Cleaned, set the zero-out, and put in a new battery. Works beautifully. :-X22 |
