Oh yeah...and what about Radio Reception?

I've noticed this since day 1...but today I finally got annoyed by it.

My Radio reception is "spotty" to say at best. I have a Motorola Bluetooth with FM modulator ability in my Expy and the stupid thing cannot even pick that up when <10 feet from the antenna.

I had to drive for 2 hours today with silence because the radio couldn't pick up anything. Never had an issue in that area before in my 2006 F-150, 2009 Mustang, 2005 Durango, 2003 Mustang...etc. So I know it's the radio or antenna.

so has anybody else had a problem with the integrated antenna in the right rear window?

or perhaps should I pull my radio out and check that it's plugged into the radio?

Not sure which radio you have, but I was unimpressed with the factory 6-disc unit in ours. We put in a Pioneer AVIC-D3 DVD nav unit and it receives much better. 'Course, with the XM tuner connected to the AVIC-D3, FM is just "so 90's" LOL. :-X10

yep, I have the 6 disc in mine.

I've been tempted to pull the Shaker 1,000 out of my Mustang and do a little swaperoo to see if the radio is the problem or what

I had ordered a Kenwood unit 2 weeks back, but the Seller flaked on me once he saw my address in Hawaii...tried to charge me $50 for shipping.

So I got a refund and spent the $650 on other crap...stupid. Should have just bought another radio immediately :-banghead

I have the 6 disc in my 07. Just came back from a NH to PA trip last week and had no problems with the reception. Have you looked over the grid on your window yet Ty? I wonder if you have a break in the grid somewhere that might be dropping your reception...

Haven't looked at it...just enough to realize it was a integrated antenna.

I'm more inclined to think the antenna isn't connected to the radio. Ford had a rash of that happening a few years back...and it's usually the easiest answer to the problem

we'll see. I get it back Wednesday

I think the reception is really good actually.

I figured as much...wonder if I should call my Service Tech and have him see if he can diagnose a problem while they have it in the shop

Yeah and they might scratch the dash pulling the radio out and it will have to be repainted....

why ya gotta jinx me like that? :-drink

It's been a while since I did the swap, but it seems to me they got a goofy type of antenna connector on them now, but my memory is kinda fuzzy. Might be worth it to just wait until you get the truck back, and check it yourself. The panel surrounding the radio pulls off easily, and all the wiring behind it is long enough to move it out of the way without disconnecting anything. There's LOTS of room in the dash on these things, see if you can reach around behind it. Worst case scenario, it's 4 screws and the radio is out... It's be surprised if it took you more than 5 minutes to check it with pulling the radio...

Might be the areas where you guys are at, but i wasn't impressed with the reception of the 6-disc, the Pioneer is much better. But, we dont exactly live close to the radio towers either...

Good advice wizard. I would pull the radio, and remove/replace the antenna plug while the unit is on to see if the reception improves. If no change to a known well broadcasted station that another radio picks up well, It would be the radio itself or the antenna lead is broken at some point down the line.

I pulled off the little panel near the rubber storage tray, then pull the wood panel outward.
