High Voltage Transformer Oil

Hello, I have about 400 gallons of transformer oil. Most of it is very clean, some got stored in dirty steel drums so it would need a lot of filtering.

I have burned it in my diesel tractor but it will just take me too long to go through as much as I have.

Anybody ever add it to their fuel in a 7.3 or 6.0? I would like to let somebody get use out of it. :-drink You see where I am in my sig.

If I had a place to store it and a way to get it up here I would do it...

haz mat PCP toxic

Dude,

how old is the transformer oil? It could have PCP in it (not the drug)

and it as I hope you know is a very toxic carcinigen. even if you burn it. the fumes will kill you, your kids, and ???

send it to a haz mat site let them test it and dispose of it.

Sorry be a kill joy but, using dangerious oil. even if its free is not a good idea.

rckrwlr: You are not being a "kill joy" at all. I end up with the stuff because I wind up with old x-ray generators that need to be scrapped so I drain the oil into drums. The oil is probably 5-10 years old. Thanks for the info, I have never researched the stuff much but I do know that it's a really fine looking color, thin oil and that people can burn it in a diesel motor, pre-2007 of course.

I would be very wary of Transformer Oil. If it did contain PCB's ( polychlorinated bi-phenols ) the liability would be enormous! Some of the newer oils are Silicone based, not good for diesel engines.

I'm still looking for diesel engine studys based upon using minerol oil as a fuel.

When I was still in the business,we were cautioned against breathing, burning or getting it on our skin. We were dealing with old transformers like you see on the power poles. Dangerous stuff. Wear rubber gloves when you drain those generators.
