Hello from Helena. My name is Doug, I've lived in Helena my whole life and I just joined the FTE Forum. I drag race a 1986 F150. I'm a truck guy to the core, 'cause there's nothing like a fast truck.

Good evening, just found this forum a little while ago. I go by Tye in the real world. I just purchased a 1996 F-250 7.3L turbo diesel, 4X4, flatbed, Automatic transmission (Yuk!), with 148K miles. I have had Fords in the past, but this is my first diesel.
Already had the baptism by fire. Went to drive it home and she stalled. Thought I may have just flooded her or something, this being new to me. Was able to get her going again and same thing happen again. Called the orginal owners and share my perdictiment. They pulled me back to the house and we began scratching our heads. Learned that the oil was be sucked out of oil pan and getting into both fuel tank. This was over at Sidney, MT area, I live in Bozeman. Took a bus to get there. Not good news. Called a gentleman from Three Forks I met, who works on diesels and he knew right away what the problem was. Turns out I lost the 'O' rings in one of the injectors. Decided to replace them all. Former owner called and said the truck was up and running now. Will take another bus trip Wed. and pick her up.
I am new to this and hope this forum will help we walk through the various challenges that will come up on my truck.

I am a 52 year old student at MSU in Bozeman. Studying Ag. Ed. with a minor in Range. My interest is in range tech/wildlife management. I teach Hunter Ed. here also. I love to shoot my Marlin 45-70 Guide Gun, I reload and I begining to learn cast boolits.
As far as my truck is concern, I can use all the help I can get.

Hello,
I own two Fords: First a '76 High Boy, new 390..., overdrive, flatbed... but I wrecked it and need a new body and frame. I would prefer a crew cab and long frame...Any suggestions?

I also own a '78 F600 with a 55ft double bucket lift. I am currently rebuilding the Ross Hydrapower HF54 steering box and am looking for rebuild instructions. There are some finer details I need to figure out. Any help would be great!

That dragstrip reminds me of the one in Belfouche South Dakota, I use to drag race bikes there years ago.

Hey Everyone! I'm trucksR4chicks here and Britney everywhere else. As you guessed, I'm a lady with some questions. I recently acquired a '72 Ford Ranger 3/4 ton. 360, 4 spd manual, headers, dual exhaust, Dana 60 in the rear and a 44 up front (I'm pretty sure). I'll have more info on it Monday when I actually get to pick it up. My biggest question right now is about the leaf springs. This truck has coil springs and leaf springs and it almost looks like its had leaf springs added on after market. Did these trucks come with coil and leaf springs and how would I be able to tell if they are stock or not? I'll get a picture up of the leaf springs on Monday but ANYTHING anyone can tell me about this truck please do. I was a Chevy girl so Fords kinda baffel me at the moment.

That truck would have come with leaf springs both front and rear. Are the coils wrapped around the shocks? If so those are usually a good shock setup.

The coils are wrapped around the shocks. There are leaf springs front and rear but the rear set has what looks like a set added on to it. I don't know much about the leaf springs but I'll try to give you a better description until I can get a good pic. There are two different sets of brackets for the springs, one mounted on the other. I'm used to just seeing one set so I'm somewhat confused about it. Hopefully a pic can explain it better than I can. Thanks for the info!

If I'm understanding this right, the extra leaf springs are on the rear? If thats the case those would be considered overload springs to carry more weight in the truck. That with the coil over shocks are a nice upgrade.

The first pic is the truck. The second two are the pics of the springs I was questioning a few weeks ago.

Bought the truck to learn to turn wrenches and I get an immediate lesson. Had the truck for 2 weeks. Drove it twice. Clutch went out. Ugh! I'd debated about what I should do first anyway, truck just made the choice super easy for me.

That could be a factory leaf spring set-up....I'm pretty sure the Camper Special had overload springs like that.
