What model and year did Ford have 4.30 gears as an option with the 8.8 rear axle? I need to find out so I can order the axle pin from Ford. The pin for the 4.30's has been factory machined so that it will clear the thicker 4.30 ring gear. Thnaks Jeff

Jeff, I don't know that Ford has offered a 4.30 factory gear as a production option on trucks...we've beeen solidly into the CAFE standard and emissions-nazi years since Ford intro'd the 8.8 axle.
I know that SVO Motorsport 4.30-ratio ring and pinion set P/N M-4209-G-430 is available for the 8.8, but the lowest I've seen as a production option in trucks is a 4.10. Perhaps the 4.30 was used in the Mustang Cobra "R" model of a couple of years ago. The 4.30 might also have been factory-supplied as a tuner base to the Saleens and Stillens of the world. Another possibility would be a rare towing package on an 8.8-equipped Ranger. Let me know what you find out; interesting question.

Ed, the reason I'm asking is because someone told me that Ford offer 4.30 gears as a production option on either a truck or van. I need to know what year and which one if they did. I'm putting 4.30 gears in my 96 Cobra and anything over 4.10 you have to grind the axle pin so it will slide past the thicker 4.30 ring gear. If Ford put 4.30 gears in a 8.8 then the pin for that setup would have alrady been factory machined so it would slide in with no problem. I would like to order this special pin instead of grinding mine. Maybe I got some bogus info from this guy. I do remember seeing a new van on a dealers lot years ago and if I'm not mistaken it had a 460 engine and 4.30 gears...it might have been a 3/4 ton though which would be a differant rear axle(10.5 I think) Thanks Jeff
