1958 f700 f800
 

I am considering the purchase of a 1958 F700 or F800 to use as a hauler for my 1958 and 1959 Ford tractors. I bought an original 1958 Ford Heavy Duty Truck brochure and in it it shows that the F700 came with a 292 Y block that I am familiar with. The F800 came with a 332 that was based on a Lincoln Y block and is completely different from the 332 FE that was used in the cars of that time period. The truck 332 supposedly has a massive forged steel crankshaft.
Does anyone have any knowledge of these trucks/engines? Is anyone still using one? I'm thinking that the 292 is going to be marginal in a truck of this size. Was the 332 an adequate engine?
I would prefer to find a SWB version that I can use to pull a trailer with the tractors on it. I'm assuming the LWB could be cut down to a SWB if that's all I can find.
Anyone know where there's one For Sale with a rust free cab?

The Lincoln engines are the MEL family, short-lived but revered by many hot rodders. Not sure there is any real parts support for them. The top of the line was a 430 as I recall, it would do fine in a big truck. You'd probably have to scour the boneyards for old Lincolns to find one. For the trouble, I'd consider a 460.

Lot of gearing on the larger trucks. Mine only has a 272. (F-600)

I looked into the Lincoln engines, they seems to be completely different beasts. I'm still debating over putting a 368 into my truck they make a lot of power and it be cool to stay with a Y-block.

Problem that I've noticed with them is there seems to be no parts for them. Which means what you do find is spendy. Right now I'm leaning towards the diesel idea, but at the end of it all I'll probably put a 351w in it... or a 460. Cause why not, lol.

The M-E-L engines were used from July 1958 thru the end of the 1967 model run.

There is no such thing as an M-E-L engine prior to July 1958, because there was no such thing as M-E-L.

The 1958 Edsel had its own division prior to July. Because of poor sales, the Edsel Division was folded into the Lincoln/Mercury Division forming M-E-L.

The largest M-E-L engine is a 462, which was used in 1966/67 Lincoln's. The 430 was last used in 1965.
