Question

I have a 1979 Ford F-250 Ranger with a 460 wit all orginal parts besides the exhaust. Any suggestions on how i could get more HP and high end power out of it?

Change out you intake to an edelbrock performer add a inch or two of rise using adapter plates under the carb, switch to a Edelbrock 650 cfm 4bbl carb for this altitude, run breather caps in bothe valve covers if your running a pcv valve remove it and plu the intake for it on the carb- you'll need to put that back on to pass emissions. adjust you timing a few degrees and run an open air element instead of the stock air can. I also used to run a bigger cam but that might be more work that you want to do to put it in. I used to run conrad caps and rotor w/ brass inserts rather than the stock tin ones as the brass creates a better hotter spark thus better ignition and more power, I eventually switched to a mallory led distributor and highfire VI control module over the stock igniton module w/ 8mm plug wires. These were some of the things I did w/ my old 77 that I turned into a 557 stroker turning 40" swampers. It had enough torque to break the ring and pinion just by jumping on the pedal too hard, and could run away from all kinds of stuff, and right after you tuned it it'd get 12mpg,... for about 3 months then itd be back to 6mpg, wait too long and it'd be gal per mile rather than miles per gal. I ran the ignition REALLY hot at the plugs.
