Difference between F1 and F6 (1952)
 

Hey guys,

new to the forum. I'm wondering what all the differences between the F1 and F6 are (1952). So first off I know the F6 is a duelie. It also seems much larger than the F1, but is it? I know with the large tires it sits very high off the ground giving the truck a very large appearance. My question is are they the same body or is the F6 actually a larger body. Now this is not talking about the bed this is strictly the body. Are the the same size? thanks

i'm not an expert at the larger F series trucks, but i thought i'd thro my 2 cents in anyway. as far as i know, the front fenders on the f6 have a larger fender well, the running boards cut off after the cab, and the beds are different.. but the grille(grille teeth, bar, turn signals), hood, doors and cab are the same.
some one will be around soon to correct me if i'm wrong.

my 52 f1 actually has a 51 F3 grill bar, and 52 F1 teeth. the other 2 teeth i purchased from ebay, dont know what they were originally on.

Cool thanks I thought they were the same (body wise). How much larger are the wheelwheels? Also how much longer is the bed? If I put F1 wheels and tires it would be roughly the same height as the F1 right? thanks a lot!

The only differences in the cabs of all the trucks is the transmission cover and speedometer. The transmission covers have the hole for the shifter in different locations but that's a easy weld and recut. The speedometers for the larger trucks have a shift gauge to let you know when to shift.

Well I could still get it to be a good amount lower right? Basically right now I feel the F6 looks like a superduty and I want it to look more streetrod-more like the F1.........you think with the truck being so huge it's still possible to make an F6 fast?

I would go with a F-1 frame, just too much metal in a F-6 frame. You'd have to change axles anyways. There one member who made a "Rat Rod" from a F-5 or 6, a bit clunky if you ask me.

Not really a matter of choosing. The F1 would be favorable but not an option. It'd be F6 or nothing but I'm thinking with some small wheels and relatively low-pro tires I could make the truck low and apear to look more like an F1.

The bolt pattern for the F6 is different than the F1, an axle swap would be required.

Just curious, why can't you sell the F6 and buy an F1? Lots of people are into the bigger trucks, I'm sure you could find a buyer.

if you do a google.com/images search on 1952 f6, and 1952 f1, you can see the difference in the fenders, there pretty noticeable, big that is. not sure how much longer the bed is tho, julie has some bed diagrams that states the dimensions, she might have one for a f6.

I think the problem with this option is that with the size of the F-2 to F-6 wheel wells, smaller rims with lower profile tires may look a bit odd. Basically you'd have a tiny tire in a huge wheel well, but that would be your call.

Also as its already been pointed out, the F-1 and F-6 have differant bolt patterns. The F-1 uses the common 5x5.5, but the larger (I believe F-4 and up) have a larger (and not very common) 5 bolt pattern. Finding smaller rims to fit may be difficult (and likely expensive).

Well, how far are you willing to take it? Parts can be swapped, and if you're looking for speed you might consider changing out the frame as well, just as easy. Then it wouldn't really matter what it started out as.

Personally, I'm all about big tires and low stances, if you want speed, buy a Mustang ;)

Hi VistaGT welcome to FTE.

All the body parts on an F6 are the same as the F2+. They differ from the F1 in that they have a front wheel opening that is about 2 inches in radius larger. Speedometer and transmission cover as Bob mentioned. Glass is the same.

Underneath just about everything is different. Frame, brakes, springs, wheels, axels, wheelbase, etc.
