If you did not get a hold of CS65 yet, once you remove the rubber shift boot down on the floor you will see a tower coming out of the transmission where your shift lever is. There is a cap that you must push down ( there is a fair amount of spring pressure under the cap) then twist the cap about a 1/4 turn. If my memory is correct you will turn the cap counter clock wise and then it will pop up. Then the shift lever will lift right out.

Make sure the transmission is in neutral before you pull the lever out.

Installation is just the oppisite and really can almost be a two man job. One to push down on the cap and the other to twist it.

That is one of the reasons why I perfer the T-18 transmission as the cap just twist on with threads as opposed to a 1/4 twist setup.

New Process 435 Shift Lever Retainer Cap

B8T7220D .. New Process 435 Shift Lever Retaining Cap

Most ppl are unaware that you have to press down on this cap, and hold it down while turning it.

If you do not press down, the notches tear out of the cap.

Ford just obsoleted this cap, but there are 100's still around at dealers and obsolete parts vendors.

Here's some examples:

BILL PIERRE FORD in Seattle WA has TEN.

WOODY BILTON FORD in Moncks Corner SC has SEVEN.

JOE MACHENS FORD in Columbia MO has FOUR.

KENNITH WESSNER FORD in Winchester TN has FOUR.

PARTS INTERNATIONAL in Farmers Branch TX has 21 = 888-727-0418.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 31 = 800-543-4959.

On the topic of shifters, where can I get a new shift lever for my 66 4 on the floor? The PO, for some reason, had one that was sawed in half and appears to have extended it with a piece of pipe. I'd like to get one that's chrome. Any leads would be appreciated.

Hurst makes a eye candy one. i just cant find it at the moment. they have a 3 speed knob and a four speed knob. but i know they make the full shaft as well.
