'78 Tranny swap (C6 to E4OD)

Has anyone attempted this: Complete Overdrive Conversion for '78-'79 Ford Bronco

It might be a little longer before I can sell my '78 and thought this might be a cool project.

The article deals with swapping to the AOD, a non-computer controlled transmission about the size of a C4 automatic.

The E4OD is as big as a house and is electronically controlled, requiring a controller either from the engine computer or a stand-alone unit.

Two very different animals.

If you have a 300, 302 or 351w, the AOD, properly beefed from an '88-'93 core would be the way to go.

Thanks. I'm not really much up on transmissions and didn't realize there was an AOD. From what I'm reading, it appears that you don't recommend putting an AOD behind a 351/400 or 460.

They sell adaptors for the 351m/400/460 bell pattern, but unless you really beef the AOD, it isn't going to be happy in a heavier vehicle with lots of power. It might do ok behind a stock 351m, but if you are going to all that work and money, there are probably better choices.
