Were you able to determine if it was a Windsor or Romeo?

No windsor family motors were installed in any F series truck after 1997.
The tranny bolt pattern is different between the two families.
The windsor was never offered in 4.6l displacement.

There most certainly is a Windsor and a Romeo version of the 4.6. My 2002 Mustang HAS a Windsor 4.6 and my wife's Lincoln TC has a Romeo 4.6.

Also, my understanding is that the Windsor engines were heavier duty designs and were made for truck applications. No Winsdors in trucks after 1997?:-huh

No sorry, they're both the same 4.6 belt driven overhead cam modular motor. The windsor family of motors had pushrods.

From the 1990/2002 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog / Text / Engine Code Charts / Section 60.1D / Page 1.

VIN Engine Code 6 = 1997/ 4.6L SOHC MFI = Romeo Engine Plant.

VIN Engine Code W / 1997/ 4.6L SOHC MFI = Windsor Engine Plant.

Now that's interesting... was the Windsor Engine Plant converting to Romeo production in 1997?

Ahh... I see what you guys are talking about now. This does not signify a difference in the motors though, a 4.6L SOHC is a "modular" motor regardles where it was built.

Don't feel bad... I didn't realize what Bill was saying either until I read his posts several times. Ha!
