what do you all think of the big bailout for Gm and chrysler.they already got some and still looking for more.maybe they shouldn't have given most of it to their coe's.they should be taking a page from fords book and dropping there salaries a bit and taking other measures to stay afloat instead of robbing the taxpayers again.

i agree that they need to do some major re-structuring with their companies, but i don't think they should be allowed to go belly up. if those 2 companies flopped, it'd be devastating for north america beyond our wildest imaginations.

for GM, i think they should decide to keep either chevrolet or gmc, focus their efforts on one instead of sinking such a huge ship. i know they're talking about dropping saturn, saab, and possibly one other Hummer????

Chrysler is talking about dropping the PT cruiser, Aspen SUV, as well as the durango. i've heard some word about them dropping Jeep as well, but to me that'd be stupid as i think jeep is a decent seller.

the biggest thing they need to do is cut a lot of corporate costs including wages and spending!!!

Too many models. Too many employees. Too many union perks. Bloated vehicles. The average fuel economy was highest in ...1989!! They need to get in tune with the reality of the rest of the economy quickly if they are going to survive, and it will be painful.

your right about the restructuring.and it would probably be a good idea for them to drop some of there line.who buys a hummer,not your average joe,same with saab,now saturns in this neck of the woods are fairly popular,and seem to be a well built little car.but you look at chrysler and the challenger,the base model is 40 grand and the RT is 60,who is going to buy those,a very select few,I mean even the mustang in the loaded GT form is cheaper then the base model challenger.and the base mustang is still a fairly cheap car.I think ford has the right approach to this deal,they said that things wold have to get alot worse before they would ever have to take a handout,there planning restructuring.but even with that the auto workers union will be up in arms,but I would think it would be better to have a job that pays decently then to not be working at all.who knows.

Yes, a friend of mine and I today were talking about GM, as in what models to ditch.

I say Pontiac and Buick gotta go. And then for the most painful choice: Either Chevrolet or GMC should stop selling trucks.

The upshot to that, is if there is only one model of truck made by GM, they might have a chance at regaining the top selling truck throne.

I think they all need to drop there prices a little to go along with the lineup dropping,make the 4x4 trucks affordable so they sell.

Yeah, the point is that it might become a marketing dream for both companies.

Ford Vs GMC for total truck sales throne. (Acknowledging the combined numbers, and the increased GMC or Chevrolet sales figure, if one of the two is dropped.)

Ford would need to sell a lot more trucks to beat a combined number, but maybe they have the chance to combat the move by selling a much cheaper truck than GM.

While I`m not sure I think that new Ford trucks cost a little less than gm....To me that means that Ford is a much better value.

not to contradict you boss, but right now with GM hurting the way they are, there's massive discounts on their trucks. i seen one, a '09 ext cab 4x4, v8 auto, a/t/c, the normal- advertised for 28---... the same ford F150 right now would be 39+ i think. the thing is, the F-series will sell themselves...

I`m sure you right Sherm as times are certainly different now, it`s wild with incentives.
I think that the F150`s will always be one of Ford`s best sellers.

i just heard a ford add today, $6000 in delivery allowance, and a $1000 accessory allowance. still not as good a deal as the family plan that i got with my '08.

Actually I have seen and comparable '09 for $3000 less than what I paid for my '07 right now. It was a supercab 4X4, 5.4L with XTR package for $32,000.

interesting. i doubt i'll see a deal at Royal like i got until the family plan comes around again. who knows?? maybe it'll be better deals?? it'd be sweet to have 2 F150's sitting in the d-way again... :)
