Door handles

Are the reproduction exterior door handles out there, DC, LMC, etc, decent and exact reproductions for 48'-50' trucks. Mine look like they are made out of stainless steel. Also is there suppose to be a bushing of some nature between the handle and escutscheon. Mine is loose as a goose.

Hi Johnfin!

Yes there are all kinds of aftermarket interior (and for that matter exterior) handles out there. And yes the originals were what Ford called at the time "brightmetal" which was in fact stainless steal.

The aftermarket exterior and interior handles I bought are exact (as far as I can tell) duplicates of the originals.

On the 48-52 there are no gasket/pads between the door and the handle on the outside. On the inside there were rubber escutscheons for all 48-50 models and all baseline 51/52 models. Five Star Deluxe Cabs had Chrome Escutscheones that were spring loaded but also fitted up against a door panel.

If yours are chrome then they are from a 51/52 Extra Cab and will be loose because you don't have the door panel.

AFAIK there is a rubber pad under all exterior handle assemblies on all Bonus Builts; but there is virtually nothing in the parts manual on CD. Where did you see this?

I'll have to look at my new ones to see if there are some in there I missed - they've been sitting out in the garage still in the package for quite a while.

On the pad thing for the exterior handles, I don't have any on mine, went to buy some and was told at both C&G and Carpenter that Bonus Builts didn't have the pad on the exterior handles, it started with F-100s.

But, I could have been misinformed though.

I'd actually prefer to have some - I think it looks better. Are you able to buy any anywhere Ross? If so, could you let me know - please.

Thanks,
Julie

Door handle pad (exterior), '48 - '52, 7C-8122428 -- $3.50 each @ Dennis C.

Not sure but I'd swear I bought mine from C&G.

Shown on page 91 of DC's 1948/56 truck parts catalog.

2008 catalog sez $3.50 for a pair.

You guys are both right, and C&G does have them ($3.50 a pair - and I have a set in the garage)! I was saying "Door Handle Pads" when what I was thinking about are "Lock Cylinder Pads" - what an idiot.

I stand appropriately corrected!
