5.4 Triton Re-build.

I have a 99 F150 XLT 5.4 Triton it has 215,000 miles and still runs like the first day. never had to crack the engine for anything but...... The time is coming soon to refresh it. new pistons, rings, block machined, heads worked all new bearings and so on. Does anyone know of a good place to get a master kit from or even a reasonably priced rotating assembly possibly stroker.

Just a general question. If you say it still runs like the first day, why rebuild it? These engines are known to last forever. I've heard of these engines going 300k, 400K, and over 1-million miles without needing a rebuild. Just curious why you want to tear it apart if it still runs great.

Sounds like he want's to add more power by adding more of a stroke ie STROKER, but the 5.4 is already a stroked 4.6. BTW I have only seen standard rebuild kits but then again have not looked.

Ah, didn't see the last line of his post (stroker). Try a Ford Motorsport catalog. Last one I looked through had a ton of goodies for the 4.6. Sure they have to have stuff for the 5.4, as well.

5.4 L Engine rebuild

I will need to rebuilt my 99 F 350 5.4 L
Just bought it it had 300000 mile , it is awork truck. noticed it is using oil , but no smoke , not sure where the oil is going
I am going to try to flush the engine with good flush at first then watch the oil consumption.

I would like your help in getting the info to rebuild this 5.4 L
Thank you

The 5.4 has a different deck height it is not a stroked 4.6. Different block all together.

The 4.6 Ls bore and stroke are nearly square at 3.552 in and 3.543 in respectively. Deck heights for all 4.6 blocks are 8.937 in.

the 5.4 Ls Bore diameter is 3.552 in and stroke is 4.165 in, the increased stroke necessitated a taller 10.079 in engine block deck height.

So the bore is the same the stroke is different and because of the stroke the deck height is much much higher on the 5.4 block.

I think you missed the joke? A 4.6 and 5.4 are the same block in all ways except the height that allows for a longer stroke. They are called modular motors because they both are made from the same basic casting module, as well as the V10.

But, back to your question. I had the same problem and after much research determined that the new gen modular motors are meant to be disposable! There are no stroker kits that I ever found or other item such as that. I called around my area and found that if I drove the truck into the shop to get it "freshened up" or if I drove it until the block exploded then the repair cost would differ by only $200. The cost of a block! Of course I chose the second option and got about 20,000 more miles out of the motor and when it threw three rods out the block over a 30 mile drive and never quit running until I got it home and cut it off with the key I felt satisfied. @297,000 miles.

Just get your Ford dealer, yes the dealer, to replace it with a factory long block. You get a new warrente if they do it. No one else will do that. If you are looking for stock power to start and then start adding bolt-ons to increase power.

I didn't want stock power and I got more! Will getting more, still under construction.
Check out MMR (Modular Mustang Racing) they have plenty of short block, long block, heads only, options at any money level and power level you want.

I do all of my own work so I wouldn't spend as much anyway. I have never bought a short or longblock. i have built quite a few engines. Yeah I guess I did miss the joke. I took it for face value..Because I figured that with the increased deck height of the 5.4 an even longer stroke can be used.... I looked at Paschal Performance. They have stroker kit for the 5.4 that has a 4.415in stroke billet crank and with a 3.740in overbore will give you 6.36L. Seems like a real big difference to me. That would give you 388 cubes instead of the stock 332. I was hoping that there would be a variety maybe some different places to choose from but I guess the aftermarket still hasn't embraced the mods like I hoped. Might want to look into it.

Just a second thought, you can buy used low mile pull out motors all day long for cheap. Another way to go?
