Being a Steelers Fan!

Being a Steeler fan means so much more than football.

It means being from a corner of the world unlike any other.

It means being from a place where the people are so tough-minded that they have survived the Homestead strikes, the Johnstown flood and most recently the Etna Floods.

These people have the DNA of hard work, in mills and mines, without the necessity of complaint.
They live simply, with no frills. They don't have movie stars or fancy cars.
Instead, they have simple traditions like kielbasa, Kennywood, and celebrations.

They live in distinctive neighborhoods like Polish Hill, the Hill District and the surrounding counties.

These people are genuine.

They have their favorties likeThe Original Hot Dog joint, Primanti's, Eat n' Park and Iron City Beer.

People from Pittsburgh don't have sunny beaches or fancy boats, but the rivers roll gently, connecting the small towns of people whose histories have been built on strength and humility.

People from Pittsburgh don't have the biggest shopping malls or the best nightclubs, but they'll take Friday night high school football and Steeler Sunday over anything.

Steeler football means so much more than you think. It symbolizes a Diaspora of generations who had the best childhood they could imagine. They ran free without a care or concern in the valleys of those Allegheny Mountains. Their blue-collar world was easy ... there was no one to tell them that they lacked material things. There was no one to tell them that they needed more.

As the steel mills closed and the jobs disappeared, some of these people had to leave. While the world benefits because they spread their Pittsburgh values, they long for their home where things were simpler and more pure. They teach their kids about Jack Lambert, Lynn Swann, Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Jack Ham, L.C. Greenwood, Joe Greene, and Myron Cope in hopes of departing not just the knowledge, but the feeling that they represented.
They are everywhere, those Terrible Towels. They wave, not just for the team, but for the hearts they left behind. They wave in living rooms in Fort Lauderdale and in the bars of Washington, D.C. They wave all the way to the Seattle Superdome! They wave for the Rooney family, whose values mirror our own - loyalty, grit, and humility.
They wave for football players like Jerome Bettis and Hines Ward, whose unselfishness and toughness have allowed sports to be about the game and the team.

Make no mistake that Steeler football is not just about football.

Pittsburgh is a proud city!!

Even if you no longer live in the area, you have South Western Pennsylvania in your blood no matter where you go. And deep down in your heart of hearts, you can still hear the Super Bowls of times past, the excitement in everyone's voices especially our fathers, cousins, and anyone else who gathered around the TV on Football Sundays!! Make no mistake, its just as exciting right now!! It's not just about rivalries and who is better than the other, it's about family, tradition and roots!
It's more than football, but its football at its finest!! If you now live in Arizona, Colorado, Ohio, Indiana, California, Florida, Nevada, or Texas, be proud of where you were born and who your FIRST favorite football team was!!

I would love to take the credit for the composition, but a friend of mine sent it to me in a e-mail with photos. I couldn't download the pics. It really does say a lot. I'm a little sad that the Eagles didn't make it, but then again, they didn't look like they where going to get as far as they did , so why complain. I'm happy that a Pennsylvania team is in there. A five time Super Bowl champion isn't hard to root for. My wife found this fabric at a store that had Pittsburgh's stuff on it and she made us some game day scarfs that double as the terrible towel. I will be waving it during the game. We are planning on doing a little Super Bowl party at our place. I don't have my old Mitsubishi 60" screen anymore, I replaced it with a 42" LCD-HD-1080i with surround sound. If its a nice day I'll put the 32" one outside on the patio and the 19" in the kitchen. Then no matter what part of the house your in you can stay with the game (bathrooms will not have any).

Talk about a moral dilemma. I'm from AZ, just moved out to the 'burgh a few years ago (my family is still in AZ). I've never liked the Cards. In my opinion, they've been the biggest waste of an organization since they moved to AZ (how many winning seasons have they had since '88? bwahaha!). I'm glad to see they're finally making it to the super bowl but the Steelers are gonna wreck 'em.

Dig that guys, Arizona Steve gave us a new bright red bird target for the range, I bet if I lined it up with a regular paper target that black eye matches up with the center of body mass.

Ken did I hear a murmur from you? I was really hoping you would be a good sport because of your ill fated predictions during the World Series and try to make amends by sending us some ammo to use on that there wonderful target that Steve was so generous to supply.

7 appearances-- 6 wins. A new NFL record.

GO STEELERS!

You better shoot fast and straight, cuz that bird can fly
Palamaolu won't even be able to catch it:-missingt

Seeings how I just had some body parts reconstructed lately I probably wouldn't be able to sight in and shoot quick enough, but I'm sure there are a few dead eyes in the Pennsylvania Chapter more than capable and willing to comply.

At least you can get the Mrs. T's. While not as good as homemade they are a good secondary. I was going to bring some pierogi up to Carlise last year from a couple of the churches down here but I got to busy and then forgot. Pete from New York brought some home made kielbasi. My wife and I plan on bringing some from a couple of the stores in Bridesburg in Phila, different recipes for their kielbasi but both very good. I will make it a point to get the pierogi this year, even if we make it ourselves.

Are you going to be coming up for the meet Garbz? If so you can bring Steve and his Cardinals banner. We will know by then whether we stomp on it and desecrate the wittle red bird, or, bow before it and offer up gifts to the once in a lifetime champions.

I have a bunch of Red Cardinals in my back, maybe I'll pop off a few and stuff them as trophy's for Steve and the Arizona Chapter just in case. Better yet I should just get them one of the many turkey buzzards that fly around here, cause the Steelers are going to rule the roost.

GO STEELERS!
