January 25th GTG - Model Railroad Show

Well to make up for Mother Natures screw up during our planned January 11 GTG at the World of Wheels we are going to try this again..

I found that the Big E in Springfield has events all year long..

ON January 24 and 25 there is a model Railroad Show that looks like a big event..

Amherst Railway Society

The hours are 10am - 5pm on Sunday the 25th..

We will meet at 10:00am at the Arby's in West Springfield..

It is 1.2 Miles from the Big E..

Arby's
644 Riverdale St, West Springfield, MA

So check it out and post if you are going to attend..

Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate for this event..

Maybe we can get some of the new CT people to venture up for the day..

Don't Know if they are... Maybe someone who frequents Arby's will pipe in..

If Arby's doesn't open that early then there is an International House of Pancakes about a mile or two from the fairgrounds (MapQuest).
(Zoom to "City" on the slider, Union street runs between IHOP and the Big-E.)

I've been to that model train show once before.

As I recall its all within one building.

Checking out the website...I believe the show is in three buildings...The Better Living Center...The Young Building...and the Stroh Center.

With the mentioning of IHOP, we as a group need to settle upon where we shall rendezvous?

Is there someone local to Arby's that can call and verify that they are open that early?
I checked Arbys website and hours are not posted.

My original intent was to just have a meeting place not breakfast anyway..

What do people want to do??

Meet for breakfast or just meet at a spot then head to the show??

Ken's sister dealership is open to us as a parking spot/ meeting place..

Dave are there any other takers from the CT group??

Aerocell4x4 01-20-2009 09:32 PM

From CT, just me sorry to say.

The thread I started in the CT chapter only garnered one response so far and that was a person who reported that they couldn't make it.

I havent posted yet, one way or the other, cause I was trying to see if I could worm out of a proir family commitment. I cant, which sucks cause I really wanted to meet everyone in person. It extra sucks because the big E is only 35 mins from me.

Oh well maybe next time

Did someone say Arbys....Count me in

Aerocell4x4 01-22-2009 06:07 PM

Eh Ken:

Since we could/would be parking at your sister dealership as a quasi-official Ford function, can you entice them to give us some Ford branded merchandise, like mugs and such?

BIGKEN 01-22-2009 07:36 PM

Dave...you're making some assumptions that just aren't so. The "Sister" dealership is our high line store...Volvo...Saab...Audi...and...Porsche. I'm not sure that it would actually be a good idea to park there...it would be about a 1 mile walk to the main gate...probably over snow covered walk ways. When I communicated with Don about the possibility...I didn't realize it was such a long walk. Given those facts...it might be better to convoy in and pay the fiver for parking.

Aerocell4x4 01-22-2009 07:44 PM

Thanks for the clarification Ken.

I do remember dealerships on that road, thought one was a Ford but didn't bother to validate.

So Ken, your "sister" dealership is an ugly-duckling?

I am planning to pay the parking fee and park my big rig in the Big-E's parking mud hole.

I plan on leaving the GTG by 3pm the latest.
