2000 Ford F250 Oil Leak Please Help!
 

I have a 2000 Ford F-250 4x4 6spd. 7.3. 125,000 miles. My truck has developed an oil leak from one day to the next. I need help solving the problem. The (motor) oil is leaking from the two breather holes or clutch inpection holes under the transmission on the bellhousing. Im thinking my rear main seal is out or there is a oil coming somewhere from where the tranny and motor bolt up. It has to be from there and i know there has to be oil on the clutch cause its slipping and never has slipped before. If any one could help or have encountered this leak or problem with a 7.3 and know what i talking about i would really appreciate the help and the assurance please reply. I really like this forum there is alot of people on here that know their s**t when it comes to them 7.3's.

i will bet if you look into the valley of the motor up top..you will find a big puddle of oil..clean it all up..start her up and look to see where it is coming from..

I'm not a 7.3 guru by any means but I do have some experience with an oil leak similar to yours. First thing to do, is to climb up on top of the motor with a flashlight and check to see if there is oil puddled in the valley of the motor. This is behind and below the fuel bowl housing. Check all the way back. My bet is that you do not have a leaking rear main seal and instead have a leak up on top. The oil is running down the backside of the motor and exiting to the ground through your inspection plate. Mine did the same thing. Ended up being an HPOP o-ring.

Do what I described and then post back what you find. We will figure this out together.

The rear main seal very rarely ever goes out, but is dripped upon from something above it.
