Help! ticking noise from dash?
I have a '97 F150 that has developed a ticking sound coming from either the dash around the gauge cluster or the steering column. The sound is intermittent right now, but seems to be getting worse and more regular. The sound only seems to occur under 35 mph. I have pulled the dash apart, but could not locate the problem. I suspect that the problem could be related to something electrical, which concerns me. I have seen this problem posted on other web sites before, but no solution.
I would appreciate any comments or solutions to this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

MAYBE ITS THE SPEEEDOMETER CABLE, MY TRUCK DID THE SAME THING, I GOT A BOTTLE OF GRAPHITE AND POUR SOME ON THE CABLE, YOU HAVE TO USE DRY LUBRICATION.

Sorry, don't have any ideas what it could be, but its not a speedo cable. These trucks speedo is all electric, no wire in a core type mechanical cable anymore.

You have to pull the instrument cluster out to get at it. My 97 did the same thing and the odometer stopped working. The gears inside get stuck. Spray some lube on the gears to the odo and it should take care of it.

This noise is from the airbag on the passenger side.
Have Ford remove the bag and inspect. One of the wiring harness was loose as well as one of the hold down bolt assembly. |
