The REAL DEAL OH December B/S session

Ok............my turn :-blah

This winter is going to be interesting in my garage. Yu'all know I'm a drag racer, so this story starts with building a drag car.

It's 1983, my friend buys a NEW 1983 Turbo Coupe Tbird, red w/5spd. I meet him in about 1988 and by then he's already removed the 7.5 rearend and installed a 9" and added an intercooler(not stock til '87 model). In about '91, with a whole 18K miles on the clock he pulls it into a buddys garage and proceeds to cut the whole back half of the car off(tub job). We spent an blustery Jan day with a pile of grinding wheels and by dinner time we had everything south of the front seats sitting on the floor. He bought an Alston 4 link suspension kit and assembled it at work(works at fab shop). We put it all under the car and got it rolling again. At this time the motor is still basically stock(albeit the added intercooler) and runs 15.0's at the strip. It looked like a full blown pro stocker complete with large hoodscoop, but just didn't quite sound the part . Still had cruise/tilt/air and still had NEVER turned the wipers on yet.

In 1994 he sells the original motor and works on installing a fresh 460ci big block and Doug Nash 5 spd. In this time frame he also installs said 4cyl into a 1960 Triumph(it was red and all original too). Turns a 45 hp convertible into a 200 hp road rocket!

Time has come and gone, the car has gone to a few different garages for storage as he just looses interest in it. It's spend the last 6-8 yrs at his house, until this past Sunday. I offered my shop to get this car finished. We tried 2 yrs ago, but he hurt his back and was off work for a year. Things are much better and now I've poked him enough to get busy again. We swapped cars, as my wagon usually resides in the garage for the winter. Now it will stay in his trailer as his bird will now sit in my garage.

There is a roll bar kit and a box full of electrics to get this finished. It physically "ran" about 6 yrs ago with help of a few batteries and some wire. It hasn't rotated since. I have pics from way back and present day and I'll get them put into a gallery so hopefully you can follow along.

..............phew............that was long..............

Pegasus, probably not, since I've never been to that site?

Here's some photos of the car:
about 1991 .......................... with my lil hot rod behind it(to keep this "truck" related).

with some cutting: with only 18K miles, wipers never been turned on.

In my garage now:

460ci powered. This motor built to run lo 10's.

Interior: to be changed slightly with cage and such.

Well, that about covers it so far. Hopefully get a good start on it soon.

Here's another up-to-date shot of ol' blue. Running it at Dragway 42 on New Years day. Rain, sleet, snow.....we race. We've had a few nice days in years past so I've taken the hot rod. It runs 13.76 in full street trim.

"the REAL DEAL" glad you used it. Maybe that could be our OHIO offficial monthly title?

Is 42 going to have that again this year? I've wanted to do the hang over drags for years and never made it there.

Ya, they do it every year, since like 1999? It's almost gotten outta hand with the car count. It's has gone over 250 cars in years past!! I remember the first year I asked Jack(the owner) if he was going to plow the track and he said "nope". They salted the first 100ft or so just so you could get going sorta, and the rest was up to you LOL!!

They talk about a possible gamblers race, but the car count and the rate they run kinda hampers things. I've missed the last couple years.

Maybe that would be a great place for a GTG? Jan 1st whos in?

Welcome To Dragway 42

Keep an eye on the schedule.........it's always a possibility.

Today I drove my 05 f150 down back to feed the Chickens and there was snow on the ground, I didnt see it but there was some metal seat parts under the snow and I ran it over and it kicked up and put a crease in my right bed side about 18" long.

What a way to ruin my day!

Man that's a bummer Kevin, sorry to see that happen

F2504x4 12-08-2008 12:03 PM

That sucks Kevin, does it look like you could do one of those paint less dent repairs♦ on it ?

bigwin56f100 12-08-2008 12:31 PM

Almost....... except for where the paint chipped!

I am so mad at myself. Its totally my fault as I put the stuff in the grass a few weeks ago to take pictures of it and just left it lay there.

DOH!!! Man that sux.

Like the day about 6 yrs ago, I was manuveuring my '00 PSD CC DRW in the driveway, around the corner of the house and not watching close enough I caught the front of my dually fender on the corner of the brick house and gouged it! *&#)$*!!! Lucky they are plastic, so had my buddy touch it up and paint it before I sold it. Same thing.....I knew exactly what I was doing, but still caught me off guard.

WALFORD'S 56 12-08-2008 02:54 PM

That sucks....I hate it when that happens!! I fix my own and have all the tools, but you can most likely see if your insurance will cover it,if you want.
I thought you were going to say you ran over a chicken...haha!!!
