Light Duty F-250 Rotors on my early 99 S/D? Confused
 

Just curious if anyone else has found when they purchased front rotors for their early 99 (11/98 build date) that they had to buy light duty F-250 rotors instead of super duty rotors? I had this happen around 100,000 and I just put in my first hub/wheel bearing assembally at 155,000 (updated to the post 3/21/99 bearing). So in turn I thought I would do the rotor (post 3/21/99) right away to make up for the .115 difference of the flanges. However I can't fit the post rotors on the truck (seriously the pad area is like 2'' bigger on the super duty rotors) I have something like 13'' and the book calls for 15'' rotors??? So anyway I had to shim the calliper braket with two .115 hard washers, use my rotor and I'm back on the road again. Maybe someone knows what is the deal with this, would be helpful just to know.

Thought the light-duty F250 was 7-lug?

I agree. Furthermore those LD 250's became the F-150 with the 7700 GVWR package.

Was there a design change in the braking system on the 99's that took place mid production? I recall reading of several improvements that were made to the SD's early on and this may be one of the items.

Something is up for sure, as I understand the difference in the rotor is in the depth between the "hat" (center of the rotor) and the braking surface. Out of curiosity, what is the build date on your 99?

When I bought rotors for my truck they asked a bunch of questions to make sure they gave the correct rotors. Stuff like axle code and build date.

I recently replaced the front rotors on my 99 250 5.4 4x4 (built june 99). initially went home from napa with the 14 or 14.5" rotors cause the part description was closest to what i have. The ones that were on the truck were smaller, so i measured, went back and went through the specs for every rotor they listed for a 99. The correct one was listed as a rotor for an 'independent suspension' f-250, 13"dia., height 3.91".
Parts guy: "why didnt you say it was indepenant?"
me: "it's not",
parts guy: "yes it is it says right here"
me: "no it's not".
He then questioned if i should be doing the brakes when i couldn't even recognise that i had independent suspension! :-banghead Not sure if napa's the only one to have them mis-catalogued, but i'll be buying rotors by the measurments rather than what the store says will fit from now on.
