351m?

When I bought my truck, the PO told me it has a "351 crate motor". Is this a 351m? Excuse my ignorance. I don't know anything about engines.Attachment 12061

that or a 400 but they are pretty much identical, the 400 has a different crank and rods, likey a 351m cause if they are going to lie they usually won't pick the smaller of the two lol

Crate motor? That looks like an OEM motor, by the looks of the rust and fading etc.

No new gaskets peeking out from the head to block or even the valve covers.

It's a crate motor--it came in that crate it's in right now.

Oh, I could be wrong, but maybe it came in a different crate 18 years ago or something.....

He cash your check yet? He show you a receipt? How does it run?

I kinda doubted the whole crate motor thing too. I bought it over a month ago. I picked it up about 80 miles away and drove it home with no problems. It has ran great so far

My opinion? Not a crate, just a clean origional 351m with a new alternator, batt cables. Do me a favor. Drop it off and I will do further research on it for you. (I will do the uninstall/install free of charge.) Let you know in a coupla months. Leave the alt on it. }>
I actually would change the fuel filter, etc. (Go with the clear one.) Nice motor!

According to my VIN its a 400? F14SMFC5412

Not sure how to do a #match for engine regarding VIN, (Engine/OEM of truck/VIN), but hang in here, you're sure to find out soon. This place :-headbang!

It might be a crate motor from years ago. It looks too clean for an original motor, but certainly not anything new within the past 5 or 10 years. It looks like the intake manifold was off at some time judging by what appears to be "gobs of goo" sealing it to the head.

How many miles are on the truck?

.

The odometers on these trucks read to 99,999.9 then returns to ZERO.

So..regardless of what it might read, it could be + 100,000, 200,000...whatever.
