Are You Having Problems With Your In-Dash 6 CD Changer?

My OEM in-dash 6 CD changer is on the way out, but I'm not ready to replace it yet (I still need a starter and ball joints first). If you are having problems with yours not reading cd's or not ejecting them here are a few tips I have discovered that help me:

-If your cd's are getting stuck when you eject you can:
1. Make a fist and gently "tap" the top of the dash above the radio to help "align" the cd player to eject (the force of the "tap" is something you have to discover for yourself).
2. Use a small flat blade screwdriver (like a jeweler's or slightly larger) and slide the screwdriver in the cd slot above the cd and GENTLY pry the cd down.
Either of these methods should eject your cd (the tap doesn't always work, but the screwdriver trick has never failed me).

-If the cd's aren't reading and you are getting an error instead of music:
1. Eject all of your cd's (see above if you have any problems) and then load them all again at the same time (I have found that ejecting and loading cd's individually seems to throw the cartridge alignment off a bit with age). If I load them all at the same time then it seems to be happier.
2. My end slots (1 and 6) seem to have the hardest time lining up (ends of the cartridge) so I only load 2-5. It may only be 4 cd's but it's better than 0 cd's.

Just thought I'd share these tips I discovered and hopefully help others who may be suffering the same dilemma.

thanks for the tips. I had similar issues with mine and had the dealer replace it under warranty.

OEM 6 cd changer/radio

Anyone else having volume problems? I like to occasionally crank up the volume and I find that my (2005) has a very low top to the sound output. Is this normal for this unit or does mine alone just suck?

Its not a high power unit, you should get either higher sensitivity speakers or an amp. I have an amp waiting for me to have time to install...

Hi Brian , there is a way resetting your oem 6cd player. I purchased a 6cd in dash out of a 07 ford 500 and a shaker 500 out of a 05 stang . when i plug them in i get various errors, no cd error ,not able to read cd and so on. i found on a ford focus site a way of resetting the DTC codes on these units. you turn on the unit and put it on am or fm any station, to enter into a speaker walk-around test simultaneously press and hold the preset buttons #3 & #6 for 3 secs, while the unit is doing its test press the preset #2 button to view / clear DTCs, if display says dtcs found press tune> to view them to clear the dtcs found press the eject button, dtcs clear will be displayed. some error codes are
B1317- battery voltage high- check charging system
B1318- battery voltage low - check charging system
B1342- ECU Faulted- Clear DTCS, carry out self test. preset #1 while in speaker test mode, audio internal/ external SELF TEST. this test is an on demand self test. if SELF FAIL is displayed, press tune> to scroll thru the dtcs stored, clear thru button #2 again if system is ok SELF PASS will be displayed
I hope this is helpful to you

I made the mistake of putting a cd in with a paper label, and it instantly jammed the cd up ruining the whole assembly. took about 2 seconds. The sound quality was very poor, and the only nice feature was the rds. After i swapped in a single cd oem unit, the sound quality was approx twice as good. never looked back since.

I'll echo cartmanea, it's not a high power unit. Without going aftermarket your best bet for some top end (i.e. driving on the highway with the windows down and still hearing the music) is going to be to drop the bass down as you crank the volume. This will get you louder without distortion/damage to the speakers.
