09 Expedition VS 09 F-150

Just reading specs on the new F-150 and Expeditions and noticed while they are both sharing the same trans they have a 2.9 quart capacity difference in favor of the f-150. That according to my math is a 26% increase in favor of the F-150. Could it be a trans pan difference or cooler differences? I notice that when both are equipped with the HD radiator / tow package their coolant capacity is the same. Also noticed that the rear axles are within 1 pint of each other (the difference between lubing an entire axle and just the pumpkin). I'm very interested in these 2.9 QTs since i've seen a few posts referencing trans heat "issues".

Not sure anyone is gonna know for sure until they hit the lots and therefore, people's driveways...

Pure speculation on my part would say that the increase in fluid capacity is due to BOTH pan and cooler differences with the F-150's intended towing mission being higher than the Expy's.

I would also imagine that the coolant capacity doesn't make much difference as I'm sure the tranny cooler on the F150 is an external cooler.

Doesn't the Expy have an external cooler as well with the HD tow package?

yes it does. My thinking is pan depth to be honist with you. The cooler maybe bigger but who knows.
