NEWBI Question (Tires)
 

Picking up my 2008 Limited today; the question I have is a recomendation on an All Terrain tire. After doing some research on the Pirelli, I'm am concern these will not work great for me especially in the snow.

My plug, if you look at my profile for pics, Procomp All Terrain Extremes. October is buy 3 get 1 free month for procomp, and they still have a 40K mile warranty. I barely squeezed 33"s on mine, but you can get closer to factory, which is about 32". Check em out, I love em and they look badass.

Well from personal experience I have had BF Goodrich T/A KO's, Goodyear Silent Armor and Nitto Terra Grapplers and a few other cheap tires. Of these I liked the Nitto's the best, but they are a softer rubber and do not last as long as the others. The BF's last a long time, but as the tire ages traction on pavement especially wet pavement gets scary.

I just ordered a set of Hankook Dynapro atm RF10's. Read alot of reviews online, plus on some other forums. Everything says these tires are pretty good on and off road. Got discount to match their online price of $157 per tire. Getting size 285/70/17

Pick up this month's Consumer Reports, they tested and rate SUV tires. The library will have a copy of you don't.

I've driven in the snow on new Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors and they were damn good.

I now have the KOs on my truck and they're pretty good in the mud and great on the wet pavement with 401 lb ft of torque.

I will see how they do this winter in the snow.

quieter on the road than the previous Nitto Terra Grapplers, better traction as well on and off road. sorry the pictures suck they are from my blackjack II phone.

The Wrangler Silent Armour have the severe service emblem, so they have some skills in snow. Most of the BFG T/A KO's have the emblem also, but not on all sizes so check with your dealer.

I've owned Goodyear (total crap), BFG's, Toyo, Kuhmo, Dean, and others. I would say that the BFgoodrich All terrain T/A KO is the best all-around performing tire. It has rugged good looks and is well-mannered on the street. Very good case compound. I put my KO's through mud pits where i thought surely i would get stuck, but to my amazement, they kept cleaning and grabbing.

My best luck with all-terrain tires on my Explorer were the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo tires. The "Revo" is critical.

If I was going back to this type tire, vs a mud/snow tire, I'd put them on the Expedition.

I have Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza tires on the Explorer now and they're a much better all round tire for my driving. Actually my daughter's driving, she has the truck in college 5 hours away.

I have the OEM Continentals on the Expedition and despite all the negative comments on these tires am finding them perfectly good tires for normal driving and occasional trailer towing. Pushing 35,000 miles on them. Pretty sure I'll but the Bridgestones on next time, just need to decide which type but will probably stick with all-season rather than off-road.
