This is the vin # F61CCH81243. Can someone decode this for me please. TIA Tim C = 330 2V Medium Duty C = Ontario Canada Ford Truck Assembly Plant H81243 = 1970 Ford usually did not install tow truck equipment. Most F600's were sold as a Cab & Chassis, but there are exceptions to every rule. IF the DSO Code is 6 digits, something on the truck was special ordered by the original purchaser. What that something is...is very hard to ID, since there are no records available from Ford any longer. List ALL the codes off the Warranty Plate (located on the left door face below the latch). I can decode all of it. btw: I've decoded over 700 truck & car Warranty Plates & VIN's on FTE from 1948 thru 2002. So, there's no need to go elsewhere. My info comes straight from Ford Truck & Car Parts Catalogs, not from some bought off the shelf code book which usually has errors. |

Ppl here say it's on the top of the passenger side frame rail in front of the cab. Lightly stamped in most cases, so it's prolly hard to read. EDIT: It should also be on the dash..on the VIN plate = visible thru the windshield's drivers side corner. My memory's a little foggy, but the cars had that plate in 1968, so I would surmise, so do the trucks. That visible VIN plate was mandated by the US Gov't. |
yeah whats wack is down here in order to register your vehicle they come out and verify your vin and eyeball it so it matches the title. the lady was so anal and dumb she didnt accept the door plate and wanted me to crawl underneath my truck and read it off the frame. so i memorize the vin in my head, crawl down there and pretend i'm reading it to her, only i forget the last number which is a 2. haha it was lame i hate the system.

Sorry to awaken an old thread, but I can't figure out how to PM NumberDummy - so I'm posting this in the hopes he'll see this.
NumberDummy, would you be so kind as to decode this door plate? Also, this truck hasn't run in about 10 years and has been offered to me "for free" if I haul it off. The glass is smashed out, but otherwise it looks to be in decent condition. Is it worth trying to fix these things or is it better to send to the scrap yard? Thanks in advance for any help! Is it worth trying to fix these things or is it better to send to the scrap yard? No opinion. https://i.imgur.com/R58wfMn.jpg Please post what the 2nd digit of the AXLE code is, I cannot make it out. F61 = F600 2WD E = 361 2V FT engine. V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant. U60039 = 1974. 176" Wheelbase. M =Wimbledon White, the truck has been repainted yellow based on overspray on Warranty Plate. F610 = F600 2WD, 19,700 lbs. GVWR 4B8: 4B = Heavy Duty Black Vinyl // 8 = 81A Standard Cab. M = Clark Model 285V 5 Speed Direct. 5?2: 5? = Rear Axle // 2 = Ford 5,500 lb. The truck was special ordered by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot." |
Wow! Thank you so much for the helpful information! I guess this truck is pretty heavy-duty - 19,700 lbs. GVWR?!?
Regarding the second digit, your guess is as good as mine - I suppose it looks like a "1", but I guess it could also be a "4" - I don't see any other possibilities. Again, thank you SO much for the information and such a very fast reply! Cheers! |

Now that I have looked, there's no 51, so it's gotta be 54! 54 = Rockwell-Timken Single Speed Rear Axle / 6.83-1 / 17,500 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity. |
