M880
I recently acquired a 1977 Dodge W200 M880 military pickup. Before the jokes start pouring in, just know that it was a gift from a good friend. Does anyone have this same vehicle or have any experience with one? Better yet direct me to a website like this one that discusses those rigs.

Is this similar to the original Power Wagon that they stopped making in the 1960's? W200 was the Mopar the designation for a "3/4 Ton" 4x4. M880 is new to me. Does it look like a civilian 1977 Dodge? Details and/or a picture please.
Here is a great Mopar site for you. http://www.allpar.com/trucks.html Jim |
Jim,the m880 was the 77 dodge. when I was in the army in the late 80's/early 90's my unit still had a few of them, they were being phased out. good thing to,they were way underpowered when they were in contact truck form. not sure if it was the 360,most likely the engine was the 318,but with all the tools and box on the back,it felt like the engine was a 4 cylinder. the GM version with the diesel was much better in the power dept, believe it or not.

A 318 would still far out perform the flathead six in an original Power Wagon.

318 is a solid motor. I had one in a Dodge 250 Van National Traveler. It pulled great, not good but great.

If its automatic, that is one you thing you won't have to worry about, from what I've heard, those old Chrysler 727 3 speed autos are just about indestructible

The M880 was rated as a 5/4 ton truck(1.25 ton) and the 360 was the engine.
Do a search for the M880 or Power Wagon. Powerwagon.com |
the 70's and 80's 318 was a gutless turd of the highest order the 360 was the same way only thirstier

Same could be said of the Ford 302 (I had one in a 1974 Econoline). The basic engine designs were fine, just that lowering compression for unleaded gas plus other emissions tuning while still using basic carburators didnt work very well.
