dump bed kits
anybody installed or know someone that has installed one of those dump bed kits for the factory beds? ive been looking but some look cheap and the others are way to expensive. what kind of kit, how easy to install, how well does it work??

I've looked into it, but never did one.
The bed needs to be braced with it's own frame, most likely the kit will lift the bed up some since you will have some heavy tubing and bumpers separating the bed from the frame. Then you have the expensive parts, the cylinder should be pretty big and powered by a high pressure pump. The pump is probably the price difference, and depending if you have to have braided SS lines the kit should cost a pretty penny. |
Pierce kit is reasonable (less than $1000) and easy to install, one day or less
has a 12v pump tank assembly the bed still is in the original location, sitting on the frame, just follow their instructions pics in my gallery on '76 highboy |
I had a 98 F250 that I put one on. I got it from Northern Tool. Not a bad setup. The bed sat at it's normal height.

did either of you guys have to mod the bed or add extra support? how much will they dump? are you happy with the brand you have?

I think I would look at a dump insert. It would be more sturdy than any twisting of a standard pickup box. The only downside is they are plenty spendy at close to $3,000 when I last priced one.

a local landscaper has the dump insert. he does not like it because it will only dump about 2000 pounds. ok for bark but anything heavy and it wont lift it.

I have had no trouble with mine
In think the hoist is plenty strong, but the bed needs some help to stiffen did dump 2500 lbs. of rock, but loaded nearer the back of the bed I agree, you can put more in the bed than the truck should haul, just keep the weight in spec and you will be ok |
