BioD, fuel filters, and the 6.0
 

Quick question the 6.0 crowd...

If you've been running dino D for the majority of the life of the truck, and now are running B100 (or something close to it), what's the recommended time (mileage) you ran on BioD before you changed filters, and did you change both the frame-mounted filter and the engine compartment filter? Or just the frame filter (since it's first in line)?

This is what I did. I started with a small mixture of bio - B5. On each fill up I would add around 3 more gal of bio. In a few months time I was up to B50. As the weather warmed up I finally got up to B100. This took around 5 months. I tend to be very careful with these expensive motors. I changed both fuel filters after every 4 fill ups (about once a month). Twice I have changed them when the truck seemed to be low on power with a slight hesitation. I always changed both the frame mounted filter and engine mounted filter. I also drain the HFMC every other week. Bio tends to attract water. There are two things I want to get in the future. 1) fuel pressure gauge. This will help me monitor the fuel filters and pump and tell me if the filters need to be changed. 2) Air Dog or Fass fuel filter and pump system. I would like to have this to take the extra o2 out of the fuel and to use as a helper pump for the stock fuel pump. Also the extra filtering just to be on the safe side.
I have had no problems at all and the truck runs so much smoother and quieter. The smell from the tail pipe has chaged too. It smells like I am frying up some good ol home cooked chicken.
