Quick Question

Well maybe not so quick. This is my first diesel and I really don't know much about them. Gassers no problem

I was sitting at a light this morning and without any warning whatsoever the truck just died. No wierd sounds, no buzzers or dash lights. It just died.

I put it in park turned the key and it fired right up and ran great the rest of the time I drove it.

Any ideas?

might be time for fuel filters

sealboy84 05-21-2008 10:24 AM

That was my first thought, either that or injectors.

RDJ184 05-21-2008 10:25 AM

try filters first much cheaper

RDJ184 05-21-2008 10:26 AM

it runs good when running

It runs great. Right after I re-started it the light turned green and I made my left turn, I put my foot in the water pump and kicked the turbo all the way in the butt. It took off like a rocket. ( well a diesel rocket)

maybe just a air bubble fart

If it's the 7.3 in your sig I'd bet it's your CPS. You can get spares for $15 online. It makes sense to carry a spare in the glove box. Maybe go to the diesel forum on this site. The 7.3 CPS for '97 & up has been recalled. You can get it replaced for free.

I love Google... I was gonna ask what a CPS was. I will probably replace both the filters and the CPS. Might as well start out with the simple things. Does anybody reccomend a certain brand of CPS. I noticed that one company claimed their product would "quiet and smooth the idle on most applications".

I'm not sure which brand is best. I got my spare from Ford. The same part works in 96 engines as well. Best advice I can give you on finding which is best is to search the threads in the diesel section of this site. Also clean the fuel bowl filter screen where it connects to the regulator. Tons of threads on that too. Odds are the CPS is causing the stall problem.
