Ford, a lot more manual tranny options then....
Dodge or Chevy/GMC it seems. i cant count them all but i do know the ranger has it for all 3 of its engines, and all of its Superduty models as well. Dodge i believe has it for their V6 Dakota, and both its Hemi and Cummins in the 2500/3500. Chevy/GMC has a whopping total of one, and thats their I4 Colorado.
of course, this bieng america and all, the idea of a little more work in exchange of better fuel economy and better control of your vehicle is heresy (thats what computers are for, right?) another reason i'd stick with ford... |
the ranger has it for all 3 of its engines, Ford ranger? who in the world buys one of those? Weren't those discontinued in the late 1980's LOL my bad! they weren't discontinued in the 1980's they're just haven't been updated since thenOo. Which begs the question can you get a F-150 with a v8 and a stick? You most certianlly can buy a silverado with a stick though so perhaps some more research is in order. I believe you can only get a manual with a hemi in the 2500 and 3500. The 1500, you can only get a manual with the V6

The M5OD is probably too weak for today's overweight F-150 with a V-8 and I guess they consider the ZF overkill.

Or more to the point... they don't think it will sell.
I (sadly) think they are right. |
The dual clutch/direct shift gearboxes (whatever they're calling them now) are coming soon. Manual tranny that shifts like an auto, or can be shifted manually with paddle shifters of some sort without the slow slushyness of an auto.
Plus more power to the ground and better fuel efficiency. |
Those new, clever, transmissions may be just the thing for passenger cars, but I would not trust it in a truck.

I think they're starting them in the new fiesta car thats coming out.. or maybe the ecoboost mks.. anyone know?
I think eventually they will find their way into the trucks too, its the same as a manual transmission strength wise. |
The Transit (think E-Series) had them a while ago (in 2000 I think).
It was not without its problems... not to say it isn't a good idea however. |
I did not know the transit had them, do you know if the little transit thats coming here will have them?
ps Adrian: I added tech in the offroad forum that could go in the sticky :) |
