Cold Air intake, V10
Does anyone have a Cold air intake on there V10?
Any Pic's or Videos? thanks |
FWIW, the "cold air" intakes in the aftermarket do not pull in any colder air than what the stock intake draws. I've measured the intake temps with my Scan Gauge II and found them to be exactly ambient temp. For that reason and the better filtration, I and others have kept it stock.
The intake tubing isn't necessarily restrictive either. Although some may argue that the approx 75° bend after the filter housing isn't "good" for performance. I'd say that it may not be worth 200-300 bucks to straighten out. That said...they do make a nice sound on acceleration! :D There are some pics floating around. I'm sure folks will post and direct you to their galleries. :-X22 |
I'll see if I can snap some pics this weekend. Time for an oil change.

I got one for $70 from a buddy last weekend, and have not had time to pick it up. Looking for a kick a$$ sound on Accel.

You can check my gallery for an inexpensive home made one.

I just ordered the Volant CAI for my 03 F250. I do agree that the stock air intake system looks pretty good, but past experience tells me that while stock may be good, it might not be the best out there. The pic is from the Volant website. I'll try and post some more pics after I get mine installed.
Here's the link to the Volant website that has a picture of it installed: Volant Cool Air Intakes |

Monsta's correct. For the 2-valver, anyway. The 3-valver's air box is different, so his generalizations might not apply to the 2005-and-up crowd. However, I suspect it's the same situation. These are TRUCKS. Not passenger cars. They are built to breathe, not be quiet. Or not so much anyway ;) |
Cold Air Intake again
My 2000 SD with the K&N Intake and Filter along with the I think they called it the "ZooDad mod" or someting like that three inch circular hole cut in front of the filter does allow cooler air to reach the Intake. Here in Stanley Idaho I don't have rain or heavy duty DUST coming in the hole. (an issue with some folks). I also have the ScanGauge II and monitor the temps which shows several degrees cooler outside air. Cooler air does make more power.
Oh and I do have a commercial Bug screen cover the grille.....so I don't have big juicy bugs coming into the k&N Filter.:-tap GARY |
i think it was FREDVON4 who posted some dyno results from a cold air kit. the whole kit gave apx 12rwhp, just the k&n filter gave apx 7rwhp, over stock air filter.
if you look at it, the filter alone is $50 and the kit is $225 (apx) new, is that extra 5hp worth $175? now if you find one at a discounted, or used (but still new) price that's good to go! but i wouldn't waste the extra $ for the kit. save that money and get you a good chip or programmer that will net you the difference (5hp or more)!! |
Anyone use AFE Pro-Dry air intake kit?

I had to modify my K&N to fit after after I put the Whipple on. I know I am getting more air than the stock box.}>
