Any NEW (2008) information about the 6.2L

Anything new about this engine?

fordtruckman 05-08-2008 04:57 PM

I'm gonna say no, but there is an article in the new car and driver that says the new mustang will have a 6.2l with 400hp so i would think the f150 will be similar.

TheNomad 05-11-2008 09:42 PM

Dont matter it will cost more then my house so no real use for me talking about =)

The only new news that I've heard is that the 6.2 will be in the 2010 ford raptor factory pre-runner truck that will be out early next year. There rating it at least 380 hp.

380hp thats not a lot of power out of a 6.2L isn't that like 370 to 400 Cubes?
The 6.2L Vette is pumping out over 400HP.
I can get a 302 with 373 Horsepower for about 5 grand or a 418 with 515HP for 9 why would I want to pay 80 grand for some thing that fox body Stangs and
beefed up SS's could blow the door off of... Kinda dumb maybe ford should try to make some thing thats pumping out a sick amount of power for a price that the every day consumer can actually buy.

krewat 06-19-2008 02:15 PM

A 'vette isn't a truck.

TORQUE is what you need in a truck.

I'm assuming the peak 380HP is pretty low in the RPM range compared to that Chevy :-X22

Also, "sick power" is not able to get past CAFE ratings for a passenger car.

TheNomad 06-19-2008 02:38 PM

very true sorry about that. But still its dumb when you can build your own for a faction of the price.
Hows this for your Torque? Big Block 460 Truck Engine
After you build your own you still have enough money left over to take the family to Disney World for a week :-X22:-X22. But if your a well to do then you can afford not to get dirt under your nails then more power to you.

Does the torque curve look like the V10's in this pic?

Sorry, when I said "torque" I meant "torque curve" not PEAK torque ;)

uhmm well, I would like to see a mustang or ss or any car for that matter pull with any of our trucks. They would get me on the street that is a fact but in as soon as you leave the pavment its over cars cant keep up with trucks out in the hills. And about the 302 with 373 hp, go buy a 09' F150 when they come out and try to fit it in there and have the computer work right. With the way technology is going in vehicles swhitching out the efi to carb would be rough, I am sure it could be done but by the time it gets done that 5 grand for the motor is going to turn into 10+ to get it installed and running as smothly as if it had not be swaped. Ford is a major company this is not thier first rodeo, nor would it be there first mistake if it fails(as in not up to par with other high performance truck motors). Have faith in ford, if they make the 6.2 chances are better than not it will be great.

"maybe ford should try to make some thing thats pumping out a sick amount of power for a price that the every day consumer can actually buy" how do you propose they could do that? If they could do that dont you think they would? You get what you pay for, look at the mustangs not everyone can afford the gt500, I would say it has a quite resonable amount of power, it is right around 50k. Or some one that still wants a mustang can get the v6 base package for what 18k. The real money to be made for ford is in the main stream, and main stram isnt 450hp. There is alot of r&d in these new things to make sure they are same and that means alot of money. The higher the hp levels the higher the price on r&d because the better quality the more cash and ford isnt out of the woods yet.

whoa that was a long rant

wendell borror 06-20-2008 04:49 AM

I wouldn't get to excited about the 380 hp number, ford is still not confirming the 425 hp to keep the others off guard. The article said at least 380 hp, 425 would be at least 380. It's just a head game, the 6.2 has been known for a long time to be a round 425 hp. Actually, 380 hp is what I wouldn't be surprised to see the new 5.4 to make before long, or close to it. The 6.2 has been designed from day one to be over 400 hp, but ford isn't going to confirm this even before the engine is out. They don't want dodge to be working on a 450 hp hemie before the 6.2 is even on the street. I'm sure the 6.2 will be at it's expected 425 when the first set of tires squeel across the pavement.

Ford announced today that they are pushing off the 2009 F150 by 2 months.

Wondering where this leaves the 6.2 given gas prices and how Ford (and GM) are down-sizing their SUV lines.

wendell borror 06-21-2008 05:18 AM

It shouldn't change the 6.2, they might not be selling as many trucks, but I'm sure they will still want to make the best truck to keep the lead in the truck market. Folks will allways need trucks reguardless of the fuel cost. Things will bring truck sales back to thier intended target, the working man, who needs a real working truck. The 09 might just be what is needed to get people excited about trucks again. Even if fuel dropped 2.00 a gallon today, it still leaves us knowing how unstable the energy ssituation is. Fuel will never be cheap again, the most we can hope for is affordable.

I'm not surprised.

Anyone got any links to any public info about this?

Interesting! I had heard that FORD was no longer going to have the 6.2L Boss in the NEW F150...but save it for the SuperDuty line in 2010...when the V10 3v says good-bye.

Well...I guess if someone is thinking of buying a NEW F150...and wanted to wait for the 6.2L Boss, then they would be disappointed (or had a long wait). I guess the 5.4L 3v is still tops for now in the '09 F150!

So...if FORD is concerned with MPG's...and this is a reason for a canceled 6.2L Boss...then that must be that this new engine was not going to provide any improvement in MPG's. Maybe they need a fuel management system to go with this engine???:-huh

Heck...if Dodge can claim a raise in hp and torque numbers for the '09 RAM 1500 with the HEMI...and still claim improved MPG...then FORD should be able to do the same. At least provide the 6.2L with the same MPG as the 5.4L...using a fuel management system. Not that darn "eco" crap that FORD is pushing. Twin turbo engines...and the maintenance that goes with it! Not my idea of saving or having a more economical truck. Just my .02 here...
