5.4 vs v-10

Hey guys...just got rid of my '06 f150 screw...looking into a '05-06' f-250...trying to stay away from a deisel ( $$$ ) any pro's or cons for either engine. I had the 5.4 in my 150, never really got over 14 on hwy. I tow a boat occasionally, not much else... don't know much about the v-10!

Any help is appreciated!!:-drink

I would go with the v-10. same gas mileage ar 5.4
I had 2003 5.4 was great truck traded it in and got a 2006 v-10
both trucks are work trucks, also haul a 16' enclosed trailer in colorado mountain and the power is great to have.

Welcome to FTE - to the both of ya!

First of all, it depends on what setup you're wanting, that is regular, super, or crew cab. Then how much will you tow and how often. Are you wanting 4WD?

Both engines are great, so it depends on the setup...

Get a v10 while you can. People are snatching them up after having problems with there diesels. Empty on the highway I get at least 14mpg unless going over 80mph in my V10 2 valve.

The V10 has a 52 Hp advantage, torque is close to a 100 ft lbs. difference and it really doesn't get any worse gas mileage the the V8.

I believe it is actually a 62 hp advantage. Regardless, the v10 is a much better choice, IMO, for a truck as heavy as the Super Duty. If you tow heavy at all the 5.4 will have a hard time pulling in OD and we all know what that does for mileage.

Going from the 2V 5.4 to the 3V v10 must have been night and day. Im weighting right now for the local repo lot to get a 3v in so i can test drive it.

"There's no replacement for displacement."

Face it, your fuel mileage will be dismal with either engine. I have driven an 06 F-250 5.4 and was not impressed. Don't get me wrong, it is quite adequate, but nothing like my V-10. Buy the V-10 for the power and torque gains. The more I think about it, I don't see why anyone would "prefer" the 5.4 (in the superduties) when you could have the V-10. :)

GO V-10!!! Next question please

Never really understood the purpose of threads titled " X engine VS. V10". What are people expecting us to say? "Nah...what the hell...get the V8?" :-X18 :D

The 2009 F-150 is getting a 10 HP bump so that makes it a 52 HP difference.
