302 casting number location
 
new to the forum registered because i just acquired a lot of 302 stuff. i cannot however find the casting number on the block. i know its a 302 but i need to know the casting so i can buy parts to start this show. i found an article online but it isnt helping me at all because the casting number IS NOT under the starter on this block. any help? thanks

here are the numbers i have located on the block. there are a lot of 33's and e7te with a 33 above it and a CA below the E7TE with an S at the very bottom. on the intake the numbers are D7OE-AC. hope this helps thanks

Hi, welcome to the site!

Be sure to check the links at the top of this forum for casting number info including how to read them. E7TE would indicate a block designed in 1987 but you'd need the date code to narrow it down from there. The D7 number on the intake would indicate a 1977 intake. Sounds like you've got some mix 'n match stuff there...

so i take it these parts can not be configured together. i figured out my block doesnt have a true casting number because it is an 87 model roller block. can this block be carbuerated? thanks

Just because you've got parts from different years doesn't mean they can't be made to work together. Most 302 stuff is compatible between years, it's just that there are a few combinations that you have to watch out for. Most all will bolt together but some combinations might not be the best choice for performance or reliabilty. The late '70s saw a lot of low compression smog motors and the heads from certain of those years, for example, wouldn't be very desirable in terms of performance. You also have to watch out for the change in imbalance factor which occurred in the early '80s, among other things. But never fear, the guys in this forum will steer you right. Once you figure out what all you have, let us know what your goals are and what you plan to do with it all and we'll help you out with what will or won't work.

And yes, you can indeed use a late model roller block with a carb.
