transmission shops

hey all, I am looking for a new transmission (rebuild more than likely) or just getting the one I have rebuilt. It isnt ford, it is a 4l60e out of my parents 95 suburban that will become mine if I can get the tranny rebuilt. I am pretty good with mechanics, but I am not really wanting to even attempt to rebuild it myself. So my question is, does anyone know a good fair transmission shop in my neck of the woods (eastern washington)? I have called several people and they all tell me 1600/1700 to rebuild (pulling and putting it back in) and if I pulled it and put it in myself it'd only save me 200 bucks so blah. it is a 95 Suburban. I have checked all the junk yards aruond me but have no luck.

so I am just looking for a good transmission shop, or if any of you know how to rebuild one :-)

it doesnt go in reverse, and to shift it into second you have to get the rpms up to 2800 then let off the throttle and it shifts into 2nd then 3rd is fine and it wont shift into 4th. Blah

Sounds like a really good price!!
4l60e is a generic GM tranny used in everything from station wagens to the 1500

Does the speedo work? Aside from the reverse issue, it sound like a bad VSS.

yeap speedo works, even when I put it in reverse and I rev the engine the speedo goes up as well as the RPMS, I am thinking about rebuilding it myself I just dont know how much I want to because of the complications and I am thinking of using http://alldatadiy.com/ as my guide. I shall see

Glad to know I'm not the only one who has to buy another Tranny.

brentleedragon 03-17-2008 10:39 PM

lol oh it is going to be fun and adventurous. I figure this is better than buying a new car which I was going to have to do

lostmybeer 03-17-2008 10:47 PM

This is my second in the truck just over a year with the rebuild.

brentleedragon 03-17-2008 10:50 PM

that cant be too good? this will be the first transmission in the suburban besides the original. it has the same engine and tranny at 300K

lostmybeer 03-17-2008 10:52 PM

I'm also sure you don't race the burb or haul a camper and tow a boat.

brentleedragon 03-17-2008 11:24 PM

i have raced it against friends, it used to tow a 27ft sea ray long distances and stuff so it has really been through a lot. Used to tow lots of marble. its been through the ringer

but if I ever had to get something for hauling i'd get an f250/f350 anyhow :-) I like them better. i might consider the 2500 suburbans or 1500's. But truck I am partial to the f250's and 350's

Yung'uns and toys!....Add $3000 a year for a tranny budget.

lostmybeer 03-17-2008 11:44 PM

Mike, make that price a little higher. Lisa is just a lot pissed at me right now. $5500 for the tranny I want/need. Looking into prices for the parts I need to get the new one started right now. Most likely be a BTS/John Wood tranny combo.

Placermike 03-18-2008 12:11 AM

OK...Most people $3000/yr Tranny expense....Tom?...Depends on when Lisa pulls out the meat cleaver!:-missingt

lostmybeer 03-18-2008 12:15 AM

She's just ready to shoot forget the cleaver. Maybe beat me:-X19 and then shoot.:-X01

Placermike 03-18-2008 12:16 AM

I will have Barb talk to her!...I think you will like the beating part too much.

Not to get :-offtopic , but how are the boys doing?
