The Grandpa Truck

Here's my SuperCab.:-X0A6
1977 Long Bed F250 RangerXLT Trailer Special. Automatic, two-wheel drive, 4.10s (hope to have 3.54s soon), 460, dual tanks, air conditioning, folding jump seats, original paint, 58,000 miles, cruise control (probably gonna lose that soon, steering wheels are cheaper and easier to find without it and I need a new one), AM radio (soon to be AM/FM cassette I hope).
It will be getting running lights, bumper gaurds (the ones that came with the Protection Package), a visor with marker lights, chrome fender trim, and window visors. It needs the kingpins replaced right now and no one seems to want to take on the project.
Thanks for looking.

Nice supercab. I'm not sure I undersatand your thought process. Your going to remove the cruise control because you can't find a steering wheel? Have you taken a look on ebay? There is always 2 or 3 of them for sale there at any given time. The steering wheel for cruise/non cruise were the same to, it is only the horn pad that was different.

peterbilttrucker 12-14-2008 11:04 AM

Thank you very much.

Well, I have seen them on ePay, but they seem to cost quite a bit more than one without. Also, there's some problem with it... it only wants to set at fifty miles an hour. If I'm going slower than that and set it, it races up to that. If I'm going faster, it slows down to fifty. I doubt just replacing the steering wheel will fix that, I don't think the problem is in the buttons. I never use cruise control even in vehicles that have it working properly, so it's not worth the hassle/extra money to me.

Well like I said the steering wheel itelf is the same for a cruise/non cruise truck. Your horn pad will fit on either one. As far as it setting itself to 50 no matter what I'd 1st check to make sure the "chain" from the servo to the carb is adusted properly. If that still does not fix it then look into the speed module behind the dash cluster.

It's also worth the extra money/hassle to have the factory correct equipment on it should you ever decide to sell it.

Here is a pic of both my trucks at a show, a 1977 highboy I had and sold and my 1979 f350 super camper Special 4x4 that I still have and drive as much as possible! I'm trying to find a shot of just the Supercab, but can't find them on my harddrive..I will have to take another pic and post it ASAP. ITs really clean, from California, had a little drip rail bubbles goin" on but thats been fixed and repainted, Dropped a monster 460 in it, has a 4 inch lift, and nice 35' w/ 17 inch alloys. It has the Lariat package with the lighted vanity mirror..

You are exactly correct... if I buy the wheel and horn pad seperately (my horn pad needs replacing just as much as the steering wheel), it would be cheaper than finding the cruise control wheel. I also realize the added value of cruise control at resale, but selling is nowhere in the near future and I intend to keep the cracked steering wheel with cruise, so the buyer could choose what they want (although I know it would bring more with a new cruise wheel). Anyway, still up in the air... if I find a cruise set-up for the right price (or get a Christmas gift), I'll put it in. However, if I don't, it won't bother me.

It is a very crappy pic of it but here it is. This was taken about 10 years ago. The truck is currently under the knife again getting a Powerstroke, Dana 70 rear Dana 60 front and some helpful body mods.

Same here what you don't see is the passenger side that looked like it side swiped a tree or pole that when bump, bump, bump down that side from the previous owner. and the fact that I will be looking at replacing the rotten floor pan. and the rust hole in the back corner of the cab.

tyman00 12-17-2008 09:13 AM

A supercab I picked up over the summer:

http://www.tyjobo.com/uploads/superc...0-supercab.jpg

I plan to go to factory cab lights and finish the interior (it was torn apart when I bought it). After that I will start cleaning up the engine bay.

ChaseTruck754 12-17-2008 12:28 PM

That is one nice looking truck - so much so that I saved the pic! It is what I would like to build next, so I am photoshopping a little (see below) to see what it would look like with mods I would make (loose the uprights on the bumper, the mud flaps and roof lights).

By the way - is that a stock front bumper? I don't know if I've ever seen that black, plastic strip across the front of the bumpers like that. If it's not stock - what is it off of? It looks good.

mmmmm - CLEAN!
