00 f-350 Rear Axle Code?
 

I am trying to figure out what gears I have in my 00 F350, its a 7.3L, 6SPD.4X4. Crewcab, Longbed, 4x4 Offroad. I looked on the label on the door pillar but theres no code there under axle? How do I figure this out? Thanks for your help. Built date is 9-99 if that helps.

Ford usually has a metal tag hangin off one of the diff cover bolts. It will have a series of numbers and letters on it something like this.. 9 3L75 that would be a 9" rear with 3.75 ratio and locking diff if theres no "L" between the numbers it has an open diff.

Unfortunately there is no tag on the diff anywhere. I am trying to find out what the ratio is. Thanks

They also stamp the code on the axle tube itself, tags can be torn off, fall off, etc. You can PM your vin # and I can find out what it had from the factory for you.

Thanks Rotun, You have any idea what the fuel mileage will be on this with the 3.73 axles?

If you are light on the throttle and brake you could get 20 MPG.

hey rotun do you think you could find the axle codes from my vin too, i tried this sites vin decoder but it didnt have it.

i also looked on my axles but couldnt find it.

I get 18-19 on the highway if I'm nice with the pedal and keep it below 2000 RPM. You should do better keeping it at 60-65 or so. I get about 15-16 mixed city/highway and mixed driving it hard and nice.

A 7.3L with 3.73's AND a manual trans.............hard to say as most vehicles with identicle equip. vary in mpg, but you should see at least 17-20. I get 17-18 on my '03 7.3L with auto trans. with a full lumber rack installed and I'm not easy on the pedal.

Well, I tried, can't go any farther back then a build date of July 2000. Check all around the rear axle tubes, there are codes stamped, then you can decipher gears through the codes.
