Linnseed Oil? (sp)
 

I have an opportunity to get some linnseed oil and was wondering if anyone has used this, is it similiar to peanut or a vegetable oil that can be used for the production of biodiesel?

Will it work or will I be making soap....What do you all think???

As long as it isn't "boiled" linseed oil it should work.

I've never thought of linseed oil for anything other than oiling the wood on my guitar or some furniture. All of the bottles I have seen say "Boiled" on the label.

What's the difference between the boiled and the non-boiled?

Have you tried the linseed oli sounds like a bad recipe when you heat it but i could be wrong

Not yet been to darn cold here, today better almost 15....at least thats above zero......will let you how it works if it ever warms up!!!

Linseed oil is the another name for Flax seed oil. I don't know how it will work for Bio but it should make your engine healthier.:-D If I can find more info I will post.

Here is what I found in a quick search of the Biodiesel Forum. Use of Flax Seed Oil aka Linseed Oil, not recommended. It has a high IV (Iodine Value) and is classified as a drying oil. This drying characteristic is why it is used in paints and finishes. It tends to gum things up rather easily. I would suspect that these properties would be somewhat present in the processed Biodiesel. I would definitely recommend test batches.

Interesting. I seem to recall a number of years ago a custom harvester that pissed off another custom harvester in Colorado or Wyoming...and one poured a small bottle of iodine in the fuel tank of one of the other's combine...something about the iodine causing the engine on the $100K piece of farm machinery to seize.
