2002 F250 V-10 MPG Question?

I have an 83 F350 with a gas engine. it only gets about 10 mpg empty. That is with a C6 transmission. The newer Fords have the overdrive trannies i know, but i am thinking of buying on that has a V-10 because its so much cheaper than a 7.3 diesel. Can anyone tell me the average mpg of a 2002 V-10 in comparison to a 7.3 turbo diesel?? thanks much, Kenny

Can't speak for the 7.3 myself... but on my V-10 I get 14-16 mpg highway, 8-10 mpg city.

How much you tow and how often should be a consideration too... the V-10 is quite capable of towing but if you tow quite frequently the mpg savings might warrant the 7.3. I get about 8-10 mpg towing 7,000 lbs on the highway. But I have crappy gearing at 3.73s... 4.10s or 4.30s would probably help 1-2 mpg.

Hope this helps!

My 01 v10 has been about the same.

That is a joke by the way so don't get all butt-hurt....

A V-10 will get better fuel economy than your 1983 truck.

Get a 3 valve V-10 (2005 and up) if you can afford it. You'll get the 5 speed automatic, which is a better transmission.

2000 f250 V10, ext cab short box with a canopy. Automatic with OD. Highest ever 14 MPG empty, hilly ground NE wahsington?

Lowest 8mph, headed to Wash coast for vacation, cruise set at 70, bad head wind towing 24' catalina trailer loaded.

Daily driving 13, normal trips with trailer we count on 10 but get surprised with 12 sometimes. Trialers weighs 7100 empty I think.

We were using my 89 F150 300 6 to tow the trailer. It was maxed out. This V10 250 was heaven sent for us and our vacations. Problem is the wife latched on to it and vacations and a few Scout trips are the only time I drive it. I have been using the old 150 for all the fire wood and etc. since 98. 135K on it, it still gets 18MPH but she 's getting rough around the edges. My new 08 250 Crew long box V10 arrives maybe Valtentines day. It's my turn. I can only hope it will be as good as the 150 and 250 we have and the 3 other Fords I have owned.
