What is rear spacing on wheels?
Series Wheel
Finish: Black Size: 17'' x 8'' Bolt Circle: 5 x 5-1/2'' Rear Spacing: 4-1/2'' In your opinion which wheels will fit better and look good? If, neither of these sizes then what would you recommend? I want to upgrade from the current stock 15 inch rims on my 1979 Ford F100 2wheel drive. What Rear Spacing do I need as well?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Series Wheel Finish: Black Size: 16'' x 7'' Bolt Circle: 5 x 5-1/2' Rear Spacing: 4'' |
Take off one of your wheels and lay a ruler or something across the backside of the rim. Measure the distance from the lower edge of the ruler to the mounting flange of the rim. This is the backspacing.Too little, and the tires will stick out past the fender. 4 or 4 1/2 should be OK. I have 8" wheels with 4" and they fit just fine.

Planning on lowing the rear 4 inches. This is what I want to put on the back of my 74 F100. Think I'll have trouble?

leshall89 you need more backspace or they will stick out. I have 5" backspace and I would like to see another inch more backspace so they will tuck in there. Then you have to worry about the insde of the tire rubbing.

genesee what size rim and tire combo do you have on the rear? how about the front? can you post or send me some pics?
Thanks for the response, Les |
28x14.5-15 mounted on 15x10 rims with 5" backspace I have a pic in my gallery but I can get another to show you that they stick out a little.

genesee do you still have an inch or more of space available between the tire and inner fender (axle side)?
|
Don't know if you have a Flareside or not, but I have 15x10's with 6" of backspace on mine, Mickey Thompson N50-15 tires (14'' wide) and they're inside the fenders . . . . barely! 15x8's with 4" of backspace on front, Mickey Thompson H50-15's (12" wide). Again, barely. I've got 2" between the tire and the rear spring.http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j.../Truck57-1.jpg

rick that looks real nice! Is that stock height? Are those custom rims or were you able to buy them off the rack with that backspacing?
My 74 is a fleetside. Les |
The front wheels are "off the shelf" American AR-767 wheels. The rear 15x10's I ordered from Stockton Wheels in California. They just happen to look "exactly" like the Americans. They are Stockton's "Explorer" series. They were $105 ea. plus shipping back in 2003. Who knows what they are now! Trim rings were from Pep Boys. I dropped the rear about 4" or so and cut a coil and a half out of the front springs (I think!). Anyway, I like it!

If you want a 10" wide wheel you need between 5.5 and 6" of backspacing especially if you lower it. I have 15x10s with a 325/50 drag radial and they just fit with 5.75" backspacing. I also had to hammer the wheel well in to get them to fit but any less backspacing and they would rub on the outside even with the lip rolled.

droppedf100, are your rear wheels custom built or off the shelf?
|
Its was close between the tire and inner fender so I am in the process of cutting them out and going with the wheel tubs

doesn't appear there's a 15x10 with 5 on 5.5 lug pattern aluminum wheel available with 5.5 to 6 inches of backspace off the shelf. can anyone refute that?
