Question about wrong cold air kit
 

I bought a used airaid for my 2004 f-150 5.4 liter truck, put it on, now I have realized that the kit came off of a 4.6 liter f-150. Is this a huge problem? The 5.4 had one solid tube, the one for the 4.6 has a solid tube but then the rubber hose that connects to the manifold. It seems to fit just fine, but I wanted some opinions. The reason I realized the mistake was because my truck was making noise after I installed the kit, sometimes not always when I gave it any gas I would hear a weird noise almost like a vibration or something. thought maybe I was a bolt somewhere. Wanted to make sure this noise was not because of the different kit. Thanks

If you haven't done it already, double-check your installation. Clamps or bolts may have come loose and require tightening.

The vibration could be caused by something "rubbing" against another surface because something came loose.

Also, when I removed my stock airbox and installed a NAPA 6637 air filter, the noise increased because the truck breathes MUCH better than it did with the stock setup.

Remember, most stock air intakes have an air silencer built-in to reduce noise. It is also a restriction to air flow. Better and faster air flow in, generally means more noise, too.

What happened?

No fix
 

Sorry it took so long. Still no fix. I had an air intake on my last truck so I understand the increase in noise, but this is not a whistle, it is a loud "grumble" Took the whole sytem off and tried again and had everything tightened. Any time the engine is close to shifting or rpm increases you can hear the sound. As soon as I let off, it is gone. man this is driving me nuts.

sounds like the problem i was having with my K&N series 63 on my 5.4L. Its resonance. I bought some sound deadener and wrapped the intake tube and the intake box, and it knocked about 75% of the sound off. Only acts up when I floor it and rpms get over 3500.

i got the b quiet ultimate. Comes in a roll, just unroll, cut and apply. Made a big difference. I even have probably 6 sq ft left and I am thinking about either applying it applying it to my firewall to quiet the interior a little more.
